As the title suggested, what documents and items do I need to prepare when requesting a replacement from Dell? Also would it be easier or by chat?

I am replacing for two reasons:
    1. I can no longer stand the grainny screen
    2. The graphic card seems to be under performing even after clean install, difference OSs, and driver from laptopvideo2go.com

    Thanks for any answer provided.

You just need your system service tag and that's it, personally I can't stand chat and always phone up.

With regards to the graphics card underperforming what is your 3dmark06 score? Remember the 8600GT in the Vostro 1500 only has DDR2 memory.

    Thanks for the reply!
Yes I understand that, thanks for point it out anyways.
No it is not based upon the 3dmark06 score, but in general gaming performance while compare to others results.

Also, how would I best approach the customer rep in order to get the best result? Besides being polite that is, I already know that. :)

    Thanks. reps+

    No problem.

How long have you had the laptop? (from day recieved)

In the US you have 21 days after recieval to request a refund therefore if you are within 21 days then you will have no problems get a brand new replacement shipped. Just say my screen is grainy blablabla, it's really easy i've done it myself quite a few times, even though i'm in the UK, i'm sure it's the same since it's India either way :D

Also I suggest you download and run 3dmark06 here

Then you will know for sure if your card is up to scratch, a normal score for your card is about 3300

    :)

I have had the system for 5 months now, I hope that's not going to be a problem. It's just that after all this time, i finally can't stand it, so I need to request a replacement. By the way, do they ship it to your first, or do you have to ship the system back first?

Dell will not replace your system with a new, but a refurb. There's a chance it may even be worst than yours.

Dell usually issues replacements on systems with constant problems, and open tickets.

They will replace the screen for you, if you want to keep the current system.

Since you can only get a refurb, as Achilles says, it won't be new because you've had it so long :(

With the shipping, i'm not sure if it's the same in the US as UK but here they send the new one and around the same time (usually after if you ask) they will collect the old system.

Hmm, I wasn't hoping for a complete system replacement anyways, I hope they only replace the defected parts of the system, because I really like my laptop and there's nothing else wrong with it besides the mentioned defects.

Thanks for laughing at me, that was some great help!!

Cool. I will give them a call tonight after 10 P.M. and see if they are willing to replace the two parts. Thanks Leo for the help.

*10 P.M. after I finish my late exam. sigh*

I doubt they will give you a new gpu as there is nothing defective about yours as you say there is. As for the screen, you may/may not get it.

Perhaps, I will update once I try, so yeah. I don't have that much hope for it either, but I am gonna try.
