I plan on reformatting my e1505. My specs are in my sig.

I have the sony dvd/cd drive.
the intel wireless 3945 minicard thing.

my biggest issue is knowing what display driver..theres so many to choose from.

also, i downloaded the (repair media direct utility) Is this all i need to keep mediadirect 2.0 after i reformat? Or do I need a cd from dell or w/e. the current discs I have are as followed:

    Audigy Advanced MB CD
    MYDVD Combo LE CD
    My OS cd
    Dell application cd
    powerdvd cd

is there a certain disc for mediadirect 2.0?

ooo thank you that clears things up a bit. One question about the Audigy CD I have, does the cd include the driver? Or does it just have the software?

the cd has everything you need, though the driver on the disc may not be the latest

    thats ok.

and what driver for the dvd/cd drive do i need?
    NEC ND-6650A slim 8x DVD+/-RW
    or
    TSST TS-L532B slim 8x DVD+/-RW

    do i need this:

    Dell Notebook System Software

my dad has a media direct 3.0 reinstallation cd that he got with his laptop (same model, very alike specs, his is newer so he got 3.0 with his). Can I use that cd to put media direct 3.0 on my computer? I have 2.0 right now.

Go to my computer - properties - device manager - dvd/cd rom drives, and find out in there which you have. That'll be the model you have.

By the way those are firmware updates and not drivers. You shouldn't need them for an O/S reinstallation.

Use the X1400 driver from the Dell support website.

There are drivers for specific external monitors, but you need X1400 drivers for your video card.

LOL, one for everything that needs one.

    I know that didn't help.

Here's what I'd start off with, you may or not need any more than this:

    bluetooth
    modem
    sound card
    motherboard chipset
    video card
    multimedia card reader
    touchpad
    wireless card

THat should be more than enough to start with. After that, you will be able to go to my computer - properties - hardware - device manager. Anything with a yellow or red mark needs attention, possibly a diver. If everything is clean, you are all set.

Also, Microsoft will tend to offer older (but stable) drivers through the normal windows update cyccles, at least they do if you go to their update site: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us (Choose "custom" and see waht's there). Dell also offers software that will do much the same thing.

You've got plenty to go ahead and reformat. Any stragglers will be easily found and easy to fix. You are too worried about it ;) You still have a recovery partition and CD's / DVD's from Dell that can fix things in the unlikely event things go haywire.
