I am looking at a Pioneer Dual Layer Slimline Notebook DVD Burner (DVR-K14). Its the drawer loading type. Has anyone tried putting this in an Inspiron 8500/8600 or a similar dell laptop? Is it possible for me to swap the plastic dell casing around my current dvd-cdrw drive on to this drive? I will have to swap the tray cover too because the inspiron one has a rectangular cut out on the lower right for the drive locking mechanism.
Someone tell me if all this is possible.

    Thanks in advance :)

    512mb PC2700 DDR ram
    80gb 5400RPM Hard drive
    DVD-CDRW module
    Swappable Extra Li-Ion battery module

    Did find this on ebay:

Probably not much of a warranty though.

I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.

Alrighty. Thanks then :). I will probbaly get the Pioneer one. Alos, thanks for the link to the NEC ND-6500A dvd burner but the thing is I am in Canada and I don't wanna buy a dvd module from the U.S. over ebay coz the customs and duties are murder. I didn't find one selling on ebay canada thou for a 182 canadian. Seems kinda high but we will see.

    Thanks again for the insights.

    Hi!

Have you got the Pioneer? I also have Dell Inspiron 8600 and now thinking of the new Pioneer drives DVR-K06 and DVR-K17. The first one is with the slot load.
Could you please tell a little bit about your experience? I would really appreciate any info.
