I have a dell inspiron 1501, AMD turion 2.00 Ghz X2, 2 gigs of ram, ATI radeon Xpress 1150 128 mb dedicated 256 shared, 100 gb hard drive at 5400rpms, not really interested in max settings, just want it to run well, basically be acceptably playable without lag, especially interested in what I could expect if I tried some newer games like oblivion and F.E.A.R. :)

Unfortunately that is a low end card and Oblivion and F.E.A.R. are very demanding games. I doubt you will be able to play those games very well, if you can they will be a near minimum settings. From what I have read, that card should be about the same as a desktop ATI Radeon X300 card. I have tried to run both F.E.A.R. and Oblivion on a X700pro card, and both of those games are only really playable at low to low-med, settings.
