There was a person named scriopio(sp?) with a review on here about the Dell Vostro 1700. It had pictures and all. I have been searching for it and for the life of me I can't find it. Was it removed for some reason? Thanks.

I have this computer and like it a lot better than my HP DV9700T. If there are any questions I can answer about the Vostro 1700, I'm happy to help.

Hmm, this is weird. I have read through the review more than once. I don't know the posters exact name. I could swear it was something like scorpion(sp?). He had a bunch of Pics, where he said even his little girlfriend could hold the laptop on her lap and had pictures of her doing so giving the peace sign. I know it was on this site because I have searched for it before and found it. It was from 2007.

I remember the review you're talking about but i'm not sure what his name was. He started the thread in this forum. If you were looking for it in the review section you won't find it there. I'll see if I can find it for you.

p.s. I also own a Vostro 1700 and they are great computers for the price. If you have any questions feel free to post them here.

YES, thats it! Thanks. +rep for searching.

Not sure how you found it. I searched under Vostro 1700, Dell Vostro 1700 and even Vostro. Nothing. What was weird was that I was getting only 2 pages of results when I knew there was a lot more.

I had the same problem when I tried to search here so I'm not sure what happened.

I remember the guy had the word "review" in his title and in the post he mentioned his girlfriend using the laptop. So I used the Advance Search on Google and searched this site for the words "vostro 1700 review girlfriend." LOL It worked!

BTW, I've started subscribing to threads like crazy because I've noticed search isn't bringing up as many results since they did maintenance a couple of weeks ago.

One more question to all vostro 1700 users....How does the build quality compare to a inspiron 1720 or a lenovo T61P. I own a T61P and I have been very dissapointed by it's build quality with many parts such as palmrest, screen bezzel and hinges wich always mache strange creaching noises.

I believe it's the same chassis but don't worry there's no flex in the Vostro 1700 chassis. It feels strong and it's a heavy laptop because of it's size.

I own a T60 and I can tell you the build quality between a Vostro 1400, 1500 and 1700 are just about as good as a Thinkpad. The palm area flexes a little on the current Thinkpads but the outer casing doesn't. The Vostro has almost zero flex on the palm rest area and and outer casing.

    Rodknee,
You are the perfect person to talk to for me. I am deciding between the T61p and the Vostro 1700. Can you tell me what one you prefer and what the pros and cons are, in your opinion, for each one? How do the screens compare especially? Thanks.

The Vostro is indeed very sturdy.
No flex in the screen of my Vostro 1700 and i'm very pleased with it.
    Lovely keyboard too.

I'm sorry I didn't answer your question earlier. I just saw this thread pop up again. I own a T60 with the ultra high res screen with a matte finish. There is little comparison because the T60 is a 15.4 inch screen with a higher resolution and it's slightly brighter over the Vostro but not by much. IMO the T series has a slightly higher viewing angle both vertically and horizontally. With that said I prefer the screen on the Vostro because it's easier to see at a lower resolution 1400x900 while still looking nice. Unless you have baby eyes at 20/20 stick with the standard res. Even 1280x800 on a 15.4 laptop looks good as well

As far as fit and finish they both rank very high. Both laptops feel strong but the Vostro 1700 has some heft to it more so than the T60 because it's heavier. I honestly don't have a favorite as dumb as that sounds. I like them both equally as they both appear to be solid laptops. And I like the overall look of the Vostro 1700 because it looks more modern in design. The T Series are geared for the business market primarily, so the layout will always conform to that. My T60 even has an overhead keyboard light in case you had to see the keys in a dark area. Nice touch.

I second that. I love the Vostro line so much, that I recently bought a Vostro 1500 from the DeLL outlet store.

    Thank you.

Thanks Rodknee, I appreciate it. I am surprised by the fact that you say that the T60 screen is slightly better in brightness and viewing angle than the Vostro 1700, I was expecting the opposite. If I get the 1700 I would want the WUXGA screen for the realestate and the really bright screen 260 nit. Looks like you have the 1440x900 res? I feel bad that Dell is changing the Vostro and making it cheaper. If I could I would pick up a Vostro 1700 and a T61 right now, but nobody but me would use it and there is no need for me to have 2 laptops.

Yes my Vostro 1700 has the standard 1400x900 resolution. I now own three laptops as i'm starting to phase out desktop usage. I own a T60, Vostro 1500 and a Vostro 1700 (desktop replacement).

As I previously mentioned is make sure you have good eyes. Sometimes we want to go for the very best and highest resolution screen and I came to regret it with the T60. Everything is sooooo small it's hard on the eyes.

You can't go wrong with a Vostro 1700 it's a lot of laptop for the money. Check the DeLL outlet store. Sometimes there are some really good deals there.

I just bought a refurbed Vostro 1500 with a T5270 CPU, 160GB HDD, nVidia 8400m GS, DVD Writer, 2GB of memory, 9 cell battery for $479.
