The paper ones can get scuffed / ripped off easier, especially on a laptop, and they don't look as smart.

    >raises hand<

    Uh, what's a COA?

[edit] Oh never mind. Certification of Authenticity, right? I peeled mine all off for a clean palmrest. :)

It's not on the palmrest, it's on the bottom of the notebook.

Well...yeah...it is designed this way so to discourage users to remove the COA....too many counterfeits...which is why M$ puts a hole that emulates "Natural Rippage"....but also makes the COA easily breakable when you try to remove it...Otherwise, it is fine as usual...

[Edit to Signal2Voice] Yeah...me too...ripped my COA right off the first day I got my Dell (to have a clean underside)...now I have NO way to reinstall Vista when I change my mobo.......*just kidding~~~*

Ah. Those ones. I've got CoA's still attached to a couple of notebooks that are 5 & 8 years old. They are unscathed and unlaminated.

You could peal off the laminated ones and reapply them elsewhere...at work we did this with a few windows 98 coa's and stuck them on the wall for easy access. Each computer had its own license on the back, but we had a set few that we used for the images.

With xp and vista they have the oem keys embedded into the cd so this is not an issue anymore...but i agree. The paper ones suck on a laptop.
