My XPS 1530 went into production yesterday. I was just wondering what stages are left before it ships.

How long usually after it goes into production before it ships?

    Thanks!

    Production includes...

    Placed in ordering line
    Put together in Malaysia
Shipped to Dell plant in Texas
    OS Imaging/software and final testing
    Then to boxing.

Traditionally the longest part of this is the beginning where your order has yet to reach the build table.

How do you know which of the sub-stages of "In Production" your order is in?

When I go to check the status of my order all it says is "In Production".

you have to call a number. the number is 1-800-433-9014. It asks you to type in your order number and you will get the updates. Post what stage your laptop is in so that I know. mine is in boxing stage and i am curious.

Does dell email you the tracking number for the company that will be delivering your order?

I haven't received any email yet telling me that it was shipped. I just called the number that was listed earlier in the post and entered my order number. The recorded message told me my package was shipped via DHL and gave me the tracking number.

Ah ok, there is a glitch with my order number as both the phone line and the dell status (here in the uk) both say that my order is in pre production when the rep says that it was in production.

In the old days (last year?), the "Boxing" stage was actually shipping from Malaysia to the hub in the shipping country. I don't know, now, though.

Out of around 7 notebooks purchased from Dell over the past few years EVERY SINGLE ONE HAS BEEN SHIPPED AT LEAST A COUPLE OF DAYS EARLIER THAN THEY SAID. I'm hoping my 1530 follows suit.

Today is the third day of "boxing" for mine... you would figure it does not take that long to box things up...apparently its faster to build than to box... lol

Boxing = shipping from China to destination country, where the later put it in a box. "Shipping from China to destination country to then put in a box" wouldn't fit in the old status page, so they just put "boxing"

At any rate, boxing is right around the corner from shipping, which is right around the corner from arriving, which is what I'm waiting for.

this is getting weird..so i called the automated status number today and i find out that my D630 is being "shipped to the carrier" then i check the dell.com and it tells me that the estimated delivery date is tomorrow?? heh, talk about a turn of events.

should i actually believe that ill get my laptop tomorrow?

This is definitely an interesting thread. I ordered my Vostro yesterday 1-9. Tonight the Dell site says my computer is in production (est. ship date 1-16) and that my portable hard drive has shipped (no e-mail notice or estimate on delivery). The phone recording says both computer and portable hard drive are in the boxing stage with an estimated ship date for each of them as 1-16. We'll see who is right. This sounds like the perfect setting for an office pool - kind of like guessing someone's due date for a baby. After all, it is my new baby (or will be when it gets here). :)
