I'm looking to buy a Dell 9300. One of the options is the Bluetooth wireless. What does this do? Is this something new. Is it worth getting. I looked it up on ebay to see if there is anything that it works with. (printers, head phones, speakers) I couldn't really find anything. Just a couple of hand held jukeboxes and a wireless ear piece. They have USB Bluetooths on ebay for about 20 bucks. Dell wants 45 bucks to put it in the computer. Whats better? Thanks for all the help!! Passnbyu

Bluetooth is a wireless standard that's been around for 2-3 years now. It works in about a 30 foot range and is good for pairing with devices such as cell phones, printers and PDAs. Sounds like Infrared (IrDA) I know, but Bluetooth doesn't need a line of sight connection between devices, they can be angled apart or behind other objects and still communicate.

Chances are that if you don't have any Bluetooth devices and don't know what it is, paying an extra $45 won't be worth it for you. Maybe you should look into it more and upgrade at a later time. Good question though.

One of the reasons that I think some people get built in bluetooth on their laptop is to be able to use a wireless mouse without having to plug anything inbut they cost more than regular mice. Some cellphones also have it and let you connect to your laptop with it and share contact pictures etc. I did not get it on my 9300 and I am happy with it but their is a little bluetooth symbol that would probably be lit up if I had gotten it.
