Just noticing the trend of things, Dell had originally put out the 20% to 25% off coupons in the end of April. They expired. Then they roll out additional 20% to 25% off coupons early may which expired the 14th. Now they come out with another set of the same large discount coupons which expire on the 21st. Is it just me, or does it seem like there is something sketchy going on. It would make the least sense for Dell to do something like this when they are having shortages of this, shortages of that, just to rake up more and more new orders just to further prolonging the delays that have been going on? It doesn't make any sense.
Unless of course they've got something up their sleeve that they havn't told us about like Montevina or something. Or maybe they are trying to get rid of all their possibly defective parts and trying to start with a fresh new inventory maybe including 512MB 8600GTs and more? Dell is a generous company that gives great coupons and discounts, but at this frequency and at this magnitude? Very suspicious.
-
Yeah I've just noticed that lately also...dunno what's up with that. I'm just happy I got a decent deal on my XPS though.
-
Dell always has coupons coming out, there is nothing new. Montevina is coming out next month, this has been known for a while now.
-
I'm not sure what your complaint is. Yes, essentially it's like marking up the price so that you can proclaim that the item is selling for 20% off. Is that the problem you are having? If so, realize that the largest discounts (approximately $540) are for their highest-end configurations of the XPS systems, which most people don't go for. And if you REALLY care, if people just track the prices for like a week, they'll realize that there's not a big difference.
-
Agreed, Dell always has coupons expiring, and the same coupons follow shortly after.
Montevina coming out soon might also affect Dell's decision a bit. -
I'm assuming you're speaking about the U.S.
Dell is clearly slashing prices because the state of our economy. People barely have spending money, so Dell has to offer huge discounts in order to get people to part with the little spending money they have. If they did not have these sales, then their stock would plunge even more. It's nothing sketchy. It's them trying to stay in business.
Consumer spending consists of 2/3 of our economy and each month people are spending less and less because of rising food/gas prices. Dell is doing whatever it can to make a profit. -
It's the Dell way.....
Ever-changing, and it will continue to be this way, unfortunately.
Good deals one week, not so great the next, and the pricing fluctuation from week-to week (or even daily)....
Then, all of a sudden BAM! A really good deal, again! -
Yes ,, thats how dell deals ! They always make it like that
-
Apparently, people who "can barely afford food, are impoverished, living in a country where the stock market is plunging and people are committing suicide" have the time to get the new Flamingo Pink laptop color. FOR SOME REASON. DUUUUUUUHHHHHHH!!!! -
have you checked out Dell's current market data? They are getting worse and worse business-wise. I think Dell's beginning to understand that they need to pick it up a notch and attract as many customers as possible

Part of the frequency of the sales might be because Dell wants peoples rebate checks.
-
People aren't buying their laptops, hence why their stock is falling and they are slashing prices.
Do you live under a rock? Like do you read the Wall Street Journal or the Times or watch CNN?

There's a link about how more people cannot afford food these days.
http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/12/real_estate/mortgage_delinquency/index.htm
There's a link about how real estate is doing absolutely horrid
http://money.cnn.com/2008/05/15/news/international/global_economy.ap/index.htm
There's a link saying how the world economy is going down because of the United States economy.
You, sir, need to realize we are pretty much in a recession. I do not want to make this argument political, as I could see you support Bush, but don't be ignorant. -
Good, then these people must be extremely stupid if they cannot afford food and are buying laptops. Hopefully they will starve and die.
I like how people like yourself blindly quote studies and links and yet do not have the intellect to connect the information you disseminate. If people cannot afford food, what are they doing shopping for laptops? If people don't have homes, are they sitting on the streets and using their WiFi connections like morons?
You want to make this political? Sure thing. All you're illustrating is that the terrified cries of hysterical crises that predictably pop up every time there's a Republican in office don't jibe with reality. -
You do not think in a larger picture. If the economy is dwindling, gas prices are rising, food prices are rising, and people are losing their homes, the last thing they want is a laptop. People these days are not spending as much moeny because they do not have as much spending money. This loses sales for Dell because some of those people could have been potential buyers before they were laid off of work, or no longer have as much spending money. Hence, in order to compensate, Dell is trying to do whatever it can to get people to buy their product by slashing prices or making their product more available (like in Staples and Best Buy)
These are not hysterical cries. They are statistical facts. It's not some conspiracy. -
We're in a recession? When did this happen? When CNN told you so?
Well, I witnessed it perfectly yesterday when I went to the movies. There was a line out the door and people were spending $40+ on concessions. I was at Best Buy today and saw people buying 50" plasmas. I see as many paper plates on new cars than I ever have. We're thriving here in Houston, haas!
Yes, we all feel the gas/food crunch. But it could be argued that these prices reflect a price *correction* from years of relatively stable prices. I love these "statistical facts" when they are really just blanket statements. If 14% live below poverty level (which is how much different than when Clinton was in office, exactly?) then it sounds like to me that 86% are above it! That's a B to me! I live to hear stats on foreclosures but never hear the number of people paying their mortgages on time.
But boring politics aside, Dell is doing what they have always done. These recent sales on XPS systems are in preparation for the new E series coming out next month. As the stimulus checks get out, Dell is heavily promoting to get some of that action. Sounds like good business to me. -
Then you go back to talking about how people are homeless, can't get to work, and can't feed themselves ...and yet Dell chopped off an extra $50 to entice them to buy a laptop, supposedly. Yeah. Only a liberal would come up with that one because only a liberal has no concept of how to run a business.
That's what really makes me laugh: people such as yourself who are so dedicated to an agenda that you try to tie anything into it. Someone asks about REBATES ON A LAPTOP FORUM and you somehow in your pathetic and shallow mind come up with "it's because America is in such crisis and people are going homeless." WTF. What's next? Someone asks why they haven't come out with the Monteneva yet and you'll go "it's because HALIBURTON, in conjuction with SAUDI ARABIA and DUBAI, something something BUSH STARVING CHILDREN, WAR IN DARFUR blah blah ...and also GLOBAL WARMING"? HA HA HA. DUUUUUUH. -
I'll agree that assuming campaigns comes from a slower economy is like me saying I'll win the lottery as you can't know, it speculation.
But one can assume it's either clearing stock due to Montevina or dell not doing as well due to a slower economy and lets get back to what we're here to discuss and not start on to discuss politics and get into a Clinton Obama on page 39...
