    Core 2 Duo
    9 cell

I understand there were some good deals to be had a month or two earlier. I will be trying to keep an eye out for Dell deals and need an idea of what a good price has been during the past couple of months (I think the last buying spree was in November?). The current deal is for $899 for a Core Duo, but I thought I saw people post even better prices for Core 2 Duo from back then?

If I need to add anything more to the thread to make it more clear let me know, but I think it's pretty straight forward (I hope).

    Thanks in advance.

Please feel free to close this. I 1) searched around and compared prices throughout other threads and current Dell offers, and 2) went ahead and ordered, after a bit of negotiating.

    Thanks.

I got my 640m in Nov/06(canada) $300 cheaper than I can today plus I got a 160gb external drive thrown into the deal. It pays to watch Dell's website for a while before ordering they often put on some really good specials. I shopped around for about a month or so before deciding to buy. Saved me $$$ :)

jhu, I got the core 2 duo 1.6/533, 1GB memory, 12GB HD, XP MCE, bluetooth and two 9-cell extended life batteries for the same price. Matte screen too, but that's only a $15 difference, so hardly worth the mention. Like I said before, it took some negotiating and I had to go through three reps to get the deal I wanted. The person who gave me the deal looked over a month into past deals after I mentioned that a "friend" got a good deal back in November.

While I probably did not get the best deal under the sun, I am happy. I received a deal which was not advertised anywhere. I also went for long battery life over a zippier processor, as I will be using this mainly on the road. I don't plan to jump into Vista right away and when the time comes, I will most likely buy a system with whatever best specs are proven to give best results with Vista at that time.

I am not a gamer. This system is for basic word, stock trading and browsing + email applications. It will be on me 24/7 and will get good use in transit every day. Again, while I'm sure there are people who received better deals here, I am happy with mine. The U.S. buyers definitely got much better deals due to their good coupons earlier this year. No such luck in Canada.
