I'd like to clean up my hard drive -- get rid of Dell bloatware, unneeded programs, etc.

Are there any lists anywhere that tell which things are truly "needed" to operate the computer, and which things are safe to remove?

I'm not sure if there is an official list, but we could get started on one. Do you think you could give us a list of what apps are installed via the control panel?

Me too, exchange Dell with Gateway and the rest is the same.

Probably the best idea -- but I don't know how to do this (and I'm afraid to muck things up by trying! ;))

What discs did you receive from Dell in your lappy box?

Hmmm, I'm not sure what came with the laptop -- but I know I have a blue Dell XP disc and a green Dell disc too.

The Blue XP disc is the one that you use to reformat the computer. Can you put the disc in and tell me what folders it has in it when you open it up or does it say XP OEM or anything like that?
