For some reason my other thread was closed when I tried replying

    anyway here it is again

"I know a lot of people love mac and it has a great style and form but I absolutely cannot stand using macs. What is the Dell equivalent? Something very tiny, thin, unobtrusive. Something I can carry around in my arm like it was a real life notebook, can take it to class and set it up in seconds with out making noise etc.. something light/tiny"

Other than the M1330 how is the Inspiron 1420? Is it lightweight/portable laptop or is it just like the 1520 only an inch smaller?

    Dell Latitude D430 and D630.

Inspiron's build quality doesn't compare with Apple.

The only thing that's "like a real life notebook" and super small and high build quality that looks nice is the M1330. The 1420 doesn't have the build quality of an M1330...

    Yeah true
are there any other good macbook equivalent computers?
I love Apple's style and build quality but can't stand macs or that damn one button mouse

Is the M1330 like the macbook? I was playin with a macbook today and it really felt like just two solid pieces of the same whole (lid and keyboard part). Very nicely designed
    M1330 looks a bit funky

The M1330 is close to the macbook in terms of size. Its also slightly more powerful than the Macbook, but is probably a bit lacking in build quality. I don't think many ppl have gotten their hands on the M1330 yet though so we dont know for sure.

Can you get a macbook, use bootcamp to load windows all the time and then use a windows type mouse?
THat might make it more manageable
I hate that onebutton mouse business

You know, you can hook most any mouse to a mac. My friend uses a wireless microsoft one with his. You can also use Windows on it instead of OSX if you wanted to.

most non-mac laptops seem to have a badunkadunk so they can fit the battery back there :/

I'm no Mac fan, but I have to admit, that while Macs in general are very overpriced for the hardware, the lowest end MacBook is very reasonably priced and probably the best deal for ultraportable mid-level notebooks.

You can't get an M1330 decked out the same at the same price.

You could look at the Dell Latitude D630 as well, although it's not a glossy screen. It's a 14" screen, and no webcam unfortunately. I like the styling; you may or may not like it. Its metal chassis makes it sturdier than the Macbook, and it's around the same price or slightly less for the same specs as the Macbook, and you get a 3 year warranty standard.

The Inspiron 1420 (or Vostro 1400, which is basically the same) is worth looking at too, but it's kind of thick. It does offer glossy screen and webcam options though.

i owned a mb for a year, and had a mbp for about 6 months.

both were nice and thin. Both decent computers, but i need something less hot and the fans on both units (man you wanna talk about loud).

the inspiron fans are no where near as loud at full throttle. just a thought.

the macs i owned also ran about 80-85c at full load (both C2D 2nd gens), inspirons seem to run around 60c max.
