I have an E1705 with following specs
    2.0ghz core duo
    80gb hdd 5400rpm
    1gb ram
    ATiX1400

I downloaded a version of Elephant Dream 3D video @ 1080p resolution, the movie plays lagging , I check the website for requirement of playing HD video,I think the power of Core Duo could handle the video easily but may be the speed of HDD is slow which makes it lagg.

    Anybody tried this???

If you havent yet, check out my thread in this forum (over genuine 20,000 hits already):

Windows XP Multi Core config and Benchmarks

The performance for your system should be increase, and should make a difference in hi-def playback.

This should help your to optimize your dual core system. This guide also recommends a number of benchmarks to compared before and after scores... PCMark05, SuperPI and 3DMark06 should be the ones to really see the score differences.

3Dmark06 is probably the only one of the current benchmarks that have multithread support. So the "CPU Score" will definitely have an increase after the hotfix gets done. The 3Dmark score will also increase, but nominally.

decoding 2d video is a task that falls on the cpu much more than the gpu. this is true regardless of the resolution. what you need is at least 1080 lines of horizontal resolution; i.e., at least WSXGA+. the specs in your sig are more than capable of playing the video you are attempting with no lag. in fact, the specs of your "before" system are also more than capable of playing the video you are attempting with no lag.

have you tried playing the video in another player? have you tried playing the video on another computer?

I have played the same video on my system (2.0 core duo, 2gb ram, go 7900gs) just fine. I'm surprised that it isnt playing smoothly on your system. I would definately try playing using different software (i recommend vlc which you can get at videolan.org). Plays everything and works very well. Also make sure your not running any other software while playing these as it is very demanding on the system.

I downloaded the Elephant video and couldn't play it with Media Player (most likely I don't have a necessary CODEC), so I downloaded VLC and it plays just fine. No lags whatsoever, on or off battery, with Norton and Diskeeper running in the background.

We have nearly identical 1705 laptops, except my processor is the 1.66. Your system should definitely be able to handle this video. If you haven't reformatted since you got the laptop, you might consider doing so - your performance will definitely increase.
