What is the advantage of an LED?
-
- Lower power consumption
- Superior visuals; brightness, contrast.
- Improved viewing angles
- allows for thinner screens
Basically better in every way. -
Power conservation. Even backlighting. Thinner screen.
Edit: Bog beat me to it! -
how does allow thinner screen and especially better viewing angles? it's still lcd. i could maybe see thinner screen but did lcd technology change somehow because the lighting is different?
-
i don't see anything supporting better viewing angles or thinner screen.

Just Google!!! I'm tired and going to bed. -

Don't forget, its also lighter, 100 grams exactly for the M1530.
-
LED Does nothing for viewing angles. -

LED backlit displays are brighter, thinner, and have lower power consumption.
OLED displays(nowhere near mainstream yet), offer much better colour reproduction, viewing angles, and consume very little power. ANd of course, are brighter. -
There you go... I was unsure right off the bat whether LEDs offer better viewing angles. I guess I need to read up on the diff. between LEDs and OLEDs.
My mistake. Sorry. -

They are placed within the screen behind it. The reason for the cost is the fact that it requires 32 or 36 of them.
-
M1530 LED screen is not thinner like M1330 LED screen.

Price is justified as for CCFL lighting, the way it works is the lamps that are lit require guides behind the screen to evenly distribute the light across the entire screen. The guides, though evenly distribute, really doesnt help in brightness.
LED lighting that Dell uses on the other hand, is 32-36 (dont remember the exact number but its between those) is evenly spaced behind the LCD itself without requiring any sort of guide.
LEDs are cheaper than CCFL bulbs, but because of the fact that you need so many of them as aforementioned, the cost goes up.
