I know what the actual technical differnces are:
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100 (1.8GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache)
but is that jump in power worth the 75 dollars? I'm not exactly sure what the the cache exactly does either. My biggest goal with the computer is to do a lot of work on it for college, using a lot of programs for cost estimation and drafting and such, but I also want to get Oblivion to run on this as well so I am definantly going with the 8600GT. I just don't want to shortchange myself in the long run by getting a slower processor.... any help would be appreciated!

A higher/bigger cache will help in CPU intensive task like encoding/video and photo editing/number crunching/business apps/and i am pretty sure drafting will benifit from a higher/bigger L2 cache/ ect but a good amount or ram and a fast(5400rpm or 7200prm) helps too.

If its less then 75USD go for it to "future proof" yourself.

For just 75$, it is truelly worth it. You get double the amount of cache + 200 MHz more. And if you are going to configure a system with an 8600GT, you can be sure that the T7300 won't be the bottleneck of the system.

But make sure you get 2 GB of RAM. Or else the double amount of cache is useless.

    Good luck.

true that, the ram is crucial too...and if you cant get a deal from dell on that, you can buy your own and put it in much cheaper.

    definately go with the t7300.
