My official date is the 16th but i think its more likely to come on the 11-13th.

I posted this like 2 min ago on another thread but i think that this ends up being more relivant here.

Yes, they do generally ship earlier, but it will be interesting to see if they do in these cases since these are brand new models.

I found out today that your est ship will CHANGE for the same laptop (I ordered the 1720) depending on what components you chose.

I originally ordered the basic processor which had a date of 7/24. Called again to upgrade the processor and was warned chnaging it would add approx 3-5 days in shipping. THEN, when the order was redone, it turned out the new shipping date actually was shortened to 7/19. Th explanation was the sooner date was triggered by the different processor I chose.

So, to be able to really compare ship dates, you can't do so by model, but by each component within the same model...

The EPP/FSS discount is entirely based on your school, right? How would i be able to get that same $397 off?

I don't think it has anything to do with the specific school because it seems that "Save 12%" image link you see on all of the websites you access through various schools stay like that. As you visit a particular school's site you're given two options: Recommended university bundles and the standard EPP site. I ordered mine from the standard EPP site. I believe the $-397 off is because of the specific bundle you choose. The more expensive the bundle, the bigger the discount.

Hey guys... ever since I ordered my 1520 I keep logging on and speaking with an online support representative hoping to get someone who knows anything. In my latest attempt I asked why the US gets an option for T7300 & T7500 processors but Canada only gets a T7100. The rep told me that they have the T7100 in stock and don't have estimated dates for the 7300 & 7500 units. So I'm wondering for people in the US who ordered the 7300/7500 if that would take longer to arrive than a 7100 model.

Ordered yesterday, not shipping until July 31 :( :(

I will be moving out-of-state two days before that, so this already has "hassle" written allllll over it. Luckily it's shipping to my parents house because I feared this sort of delay, but I'm peeved because the entire time I was customizing my "school-recommended" model it was giving me an estimated ship date of July 15. Does it really take an extra 16 days to bump up the memory just a little, and make it brown?

You got unlucky just like me. Dell probably pushed it all the way from 15 to 31 (like me and you) because they are being swamped by so many orders. I wish I had ordered 2 days ago but what can you do..

My 1520 ship date is also the 31st. Two days ago, it was the 13th when I checked. I think its becuase the 1520 is so popular and dell couldnt handle the high volumn of orders so well. I am a little relieved when i heard the M1330 is pushed to August 15th, though i shouldnt rejoice on other's pain. LOL

This is so frustrating....I ordered my laptop yesterday and the shipping date said 7/31....

Now, I went to look back at the Dell site and they changed the date to the 18th...

what the hell is Dell doing

You know...I noticed something about Dell....I know that Sony and HP don't do it...but

You know how each base config has a set price? and after you config it, it comes out to a different one.

Every now and then, Dell changes it's pre-configured machines so that the price is lower, but they include less options. This can potentially deceive buyers and I don't appreciate it.

Do not mistake "in production" as your machine is rolling down the assembly line, because it is not. That just means your order is in the production phase, and could sit there for 1+ months if need be.

I noticed that as well. That is why it took me a good 3-4 days before I finally made my Inspiron notebook purchase and came here to ask some questions. I went through every single configuration (on both Dell and Student) for all 1520 modules and wrote down their base price, discount price, and final prices. Maybe I spent too much time, but I wanted to make sure I was getting all the options I wanted for the lowest price possible. It was incredibly frustrating with all the discounts and certain requirements you must meet.

For example, their biggest discount for the Inspirons were the AMD systems. I started configuring it, thinking I was getting a good deal, until I saw I had to either pay extra for some options, or it doesn't come with those options at all, or had crappier base specs.

    They're very sneaky.

Hope mine moves up to the 18th. I'm looking at 7/31 as well. As long as I get this before school starts in September I'll be happy

Actually what dell does is it has an "pre-production" stage where they aquire the parts and an "In production" stage where they build it. They usualy sit there in the "Pre-production" stage 3-4 days. i ordered mine on friday which means that today would be the actual first day it gets worked on (dell doesnt work on weekends) So the fact that it went right into production means that they are probably actually working on it, considering it switched right after i called dell.

Ill give dell the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Also i noticed today that they changed thier lead order time from 15 days per laptop to 9 days. But they also added the delay times for the separate laptops. im hoping that mine doesn't fall under any of these delays.

Argh I hate waiting for thing I have already paid for. They said they dont charge the account until it is shipped...well all my money is gone lol.

Bleh estimated 7/31 :( They obviously need to hire more people during this time.

Well mine was "In Production" 60 seconds after I ordered it, and has been "In Production" for 4 days now...does that mean it's shipping tomorrow? No.

Actualy what im looking at is the little bar on the "my account" page that tells you the order number, the status, and how much it cost. It seems to be slightly more accurate. Also contact Dell service and ask them for a complete log of the production of the laptop.
