EBay has countless new Dells for sale in original boxes. It doesn't seem like Dell would allow their computers to be resold like that. Does anybody know where they come from and if somebody bought one would the warranty still be good? I ordered mine from Dell and would be very skeptical of these eBay sellers, but they seem to get a fair price for them and their customers seem happy for the most part.

a couple of ways. Some people use the coupon deals and capitalize on offers Dell runs for a period of time and then resell to less savvy buyers unaware of these coupon codes and what not. Profits are slim there though. A lot of these guys gather the parts necessary and assemble the machines themselves. You'll also find a lot of people on eBay simply selling Inspiron parts, sometimes in bulk. For example this seller:

Some of them are scams, I fell for one a few months ago. Luckly I paid with my Discover credit card and two days after I paid with paypal, ebay sends me a message that the seller is suspected for fruad (a little late ebay). Paypay didnt want to have anything to do with it and luckly Discover understood what happned and refunded the money.
Long story short, beware of a good price on ebay. -
I scanned the ebay offers for a Dell 8600 for months, and finally bought one: very happy with the whole transaction. I kept checking the Dell site prices, including adding all the coupons I found on many web pages (there's lots of coupons available, that can save a customer LOTS of money) and even with coupons, sales, rebates, etc from Dell, I saved a lot of $$$ by buying on ebay: around $700 when compared to the best deal I could put together on the Dell site, PLUS the $200 in state sales tax I didn't have to pay. But you do have to be careful. there are plenty of ripoffs on these items on ebay.
The vendors who sell Dell computers regularly on ebay buy them directly from Dell via special deals they get as business customers, and they ARE brand-new, never booted up, sealed-in-box units. The warranty is registered to the first person who boots it up, but even if you buy one already registered, it can easily be transfered. I did lots of research on all of this before jumping in and buying one.
Some of these laptops are sold to foreign bidders who have to pay lots more in their country for the same thing.
hope this helps you.

I'm thinking of getting my dell 9400 through an ebay company call high end computers they have about 3000 feedback and 99.2% positive. he offers 50$ to people who use paypal which makes me a little nervous after reading that post. I'm going to stick with the credit card. I wish we got the same deals on dell.ca. ah well its worth it to get it off ebay if you save $800+CAD.
I'm still not 100% clear on whether im going to have to pay duty or tax when shipping into canada. does anybody know about this?
What is the story about all the new Dells on eBay
