Anybody have any idea what the surfaces of the e1705 are made of? I suspect it is primarily plastic, but I remember somebody saying somwhere that they used MAGNESIUM on the screen cover??? That is expensive stuff. Is that true? What about the rest of the machine? How bout' inside the machine? How bout the power button: platinum???
Thanks

Magnesium alloy - I think just the lid and bottom are "reinforced" with it. Meaning I doubt the entire laptop casing is this material, and it's probably jsut a frame like structure. I wouldn't know first hand though. All Google reviews say this...

It should say it somewhere on the dell site -
The only metal support parts in my 9300 are the back of the LCD lid which has a thin stiff piece of metal alloy. Also, if you notice the pic below, the palm rest on the right has 2 parts that have metal alloy framing. If you look at the bottom on the left, I don't think there are any frame supports.

Take a bow dude. You are one brave soul... I like to consider myself technical, especially with desktops. I draw the line with my E1705 though. No way in hell am I going to take apart this thing.
Thanks for the 'guts' look! -

Nice pic! So what do you think, is your Inspiron RoadReady (tm) like Dell claims?

I don't have a power adapter that works yet and my battery is down to 28%, so I'm running at 318MhzI should get my new PA some time this week, then I'll be full mobile

The XPS Gen2 and M170 is the compatible with the 9300 because it is the same "basic" computer. The 9300 just need a BIOs hack and bigger power adapters to work. If I really wanted, I could have gotten a 7800 GTX but the price difference was too much. -
haha wow. that is pretty nice! i do not have the guts to open my laptop. XD
What is this thing made of?
