So I order a dell xps m1530 and my dates look like this:

    Order Date: 08/04/2008
Estimated Delivery Date (on or before this date): 06/05/2008

     A whole month.

    Sleeeeeeep....

The next morning I check and within the space of 8 hours my order has gone from phase 1. order processing to phase 4. delivery preparation

    o_0 w.T.f?

Anyways, my question is how reliable are dells delivery estimates? as it stands do you think the order will arrive anywhere near the estimate or will it get here in a few days, because im rather busy during the next few weeks and I'd rather not clear out a whole month just to wait for the delivery..

Haha maybe they are accounting for DHL screwing up delivery for a month like they usually do, they'll lose it, then dell have to make and send another, and another until they finally get lucky.

I just found out from dell that they display the maximum time it could take originally (1 month), then alter it accordingly once they start putting it together and know that they have the right parts available etc.

I placed an order for a 1530 on the 8th. On the status screen it was stuck in Order Processing until the 12th, where it merrily trotted right the way through to dispatch in one day.

yeah, if you read the estimated date, it says "on, or before the: xxx". and it's safer to use large, conservative margains, if it comes earlier it looks like "outstanding service", and if it is late, the margains prevent it form being considered "late", kind of how British Train services run..

from my experience, ordered a brand new 1730 on 28th, they quoted a 15th april estimated delivery date, i've been contacted by walsh western and they are going to deliver it tomorrow afternoon.. so in my case it was bang on target from the 1st day.
