I have the TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D, and this thing does not want to burn a single DVD or CD, no matter what program I use, the disc are unreadable. I've tried checking on dell's site, and they dont even have drivers listed for it.

may be it's a defective drive, i had the same problem before with my sony slim drive . Try to call Dell for return. btw , does your drive compatible when burn DVD+R or -R?? normally -R works with all drives. My burner Sony in my E1705 can only burn DVD-R.
Firmware update is available for your TSST dvd drive, you might want to try that. -
its compatible with both, and where would i find this firmware update, its not on the dell site.

I have a similar TSSTcorp drive and it sucks ass. I can't even burn 8X DVD+R's. I wish mine came with a NEC.
As for the firmware, find your laptop model and then look under 'Removeable Media Storage Devices'. It should be listed under there. -

As someone else suggest, try updating your firmware. There are some other factors such as software and DVD manufacturer. XP does not have DVD burning capability software, so you must install a 3rd party software (such as Sonic or Nero).
Make sure to check your software settings. I know Nero has a info tool that will let you see what all your dvd burner can burn, and some of the options that should be checked were not on mine. -
Well dell has no firmware updates for my drive, and when I chatted with support, their method for repair failed too. I guess I just got a bum drive so as we speak a technician is working on getting a new drive out to me and a guy to install it. If support is gonna consistently be this good, then i'm glad i dropped a little more for the 4 year warranty.

I had a similar problem, but it went away after I did a clean install. I realize that doesn't make any sense, but it's true. I was able to write data files to DVDs before, but couldn't burn a disk from an ISO (image) file. Now I can. I think there was a problem with how Dell had he software installed.
Does anyone know whether it's ok to use this drive to burn DVD-R16X discs? I think the drive is only rated for 8X, and there's a warning on a pack of disks I have about using them in drives that aren't up to the latest standard. -

Southern Girl's the expert on this, but if you follow here instructions in the link, it's pretty easy. Plus, you get rid of all the nagware and other bs that Dell puts on the machine. -

By any chance, do you guys think I will be able to get a replacement DVD+RW DL drive? -
I have a TSST drive and I had problems on two occassions:
1. For no obvious reason in device manager the drive was set to PIO mode. That makes the writing impossible. It may start writing, but it will never successfully finish.
2. I had problems reading and writing both CDs and DVDs. I took a clean glasses cloth and tried to clean the lens. It suddenly moved, like it was jammed or something despite I was using very gentle pressure. Afterwards it reads and writes whatever I put into it. Call it a dirty lens, but I am convinced that it was jammed somehow.
I record a lot DVD-RWs, no problem whatsoever.
Hope this helps,

Call dell and tell them your burner doesnt burn and they should send another one
-
I tried a CD burning, that working, I will try to burn something tomorow

Definately call dell, my drive doesnt work, I chatted with dell. They are sending one out to a tech who will come and install it for me.

My experiences with laptop CD drives haven't been that well. And thats in more then just my E1505. Currently my E1505 wont burn DVD's but its not that big of a deal to me, because I don't count on laptop CD drives to work. Yeah I pay for one and all but they've always been lemons, any brand. Just use a external hard drive for backing things up, its easier anyways.

I've got the exact same problem!!!! ARGH!!!!

I say your drive is stuffed. A firmware update usually does not fix an issue where your drive will not do anything.

This is perhaphs the worst optical drive for any laptop. I have felt sorry for buying Dell. After the expiry of warranty, you can't contact dell. How bad can it get?
OK, now I want a replacement for dell inspiron B 130 after the bloody TS-L632D failed. Can anyone suggest a good one that would be compatible with the system. At the same time, can I get a additional battery for this model.
And yes, a firmware for this model is available at Dell.
What is wrong with my DVD burner?
