Smaller die (45nm) compared to the T7700's 65nm, so that means less voltage which means it runs cooler which also means longer battery life.

is it the only difference between t700 and t8300(less voltage)?

    No performance differences?

I have heard there is also a slight performance jump with the penryn chips.

There`s not many benchmarks available to rate those cpus. One thing to consider is the T7700 has more L2 cache.

This one shows the T7700 slightly faster than the T8300. It was tested in Macbooks.

And this again shows the T7700 being slightly faster than the T8300

So for the OP, there`s no performance gain. You will get a cooler CPU that uses less power.

And a laptop that runs cooler likely lasts longer.

Absolutely. The T8300 is a better choice than the T7700 for that reason.

For the OP, you can under volt your T7700 to reduce heat and power consumption if that's what you're worried about.
