I got my m1330 ordered with 1gb of ram. I want to put 4gb in there, but i have a question. I was always a corsair or kingston man for desktops. however neither company makes the ram for the ddr2 sodimm pc5300 667. Is that the only ram the m1330 will hold? and the only brands i can find of 4gb 2x2gb is PNY, GEIL, and G-Skill. Would the OCZ pc5400 work? Which would run the best. I got Vista Ultimate 32bit. But when it arrives Im gonna get the 64bit version on there, if the drivers dont blow. Anyway, since the graphics card is lacking I need good ram. Or is basically all notebook ram the same unlike desktop? Thanks

The OCZ PC2-5400 should work.

Did you get the OCZ 4GB kit from newegg for $250?
-
Yes did you get the ram???
-
Does not matter!

Have you ever tried a sentence structure out? Your entire posting history is madeup of the same 3-4 word responses, all 633 posts.
Of course it matters when i would next ask him if he likes the RAM and found a better price... -
Just curious, what kind of performance increase do you get with 4gb instead of 2gb? I mean, what applications get a significant benefit? Multitasking? Is there any benchmark comparing a pc or notebook with 2Gb vs 4Gb??
Thanks for the info! Anyway, I'm getting XP so I could only get 3Gb.... by the way, does it matter if you put different size memory sticks in a core2duo laptop? -

With 4 GB of Crucial RAM (from ZZF, total ~ $200 AR), on my stock Dell factory installation (with a little tweaking) my startup time from Vista Logo to welcome screen is 20 seconds on a 160 GB 7200RPM drive. Windows actually responds like XP did with 3+ GB. There is basically no waiting. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. start up in 1 second.
Having said that, Vista is still a hog, but I think it's good enough to finally dump XP, if only for UAC protection (yes, I leave it on, and it does not bother me) and the improved UI (even with Aero off). -
I think people have a misconception that more memory = faster.
The reason you may "feel" it's faster is cause windows has more room to put more files into ram (kinda like a caching system) so once your programs have loaded up once (after your system boot up) it can load directly from it. Rams go faster than HDDs and that's a given so obviously it'll be "faster".
However, this doesn't mean that the data transfer rate on Rams are faster.
You see PC3200 , PC-2100, PC-5400... These numbers determine how FAST your rams work at.
3200 Means 3.2 GB/sec so in the same respect 5400 would mean 5.4 GB/sec and so forth. Those judge how fast your rams work giving you the actual performance boost.
Ram timing is also something important in how fast ram responds and sends info from and to your computer. Companies like Crucial (Magic series) or OCZ play around with those timings to give you better performance and that's why you pay the premium dollar for it. -
on this same note - anyone got ideas of where i can get this stuff for cheap in canada? newegg doesnt ship here
-
Yeh i have the 2x1gb kit from patriot, no complaints wt so ever!
-
I just bought two 2gb modules. Installed one in my m1330, giving me 3gb RAM. The other I am going to put in my girlfriend's laptop.
The 3gb config works well. It did not lower windows experience score, I suspect, because it still uses dual channel for 2gb of the 3gb. -
I bought 2x2Gb modules of OCZ today in Canada and got a 30 buck rebate so thats ok.
I run 64Bit and see this now... Sweet!!!Attached Files:

It was simply a response to your 'Does not matter' which i took as being quite negative as it did matter very much.
Apologies f it wasn't intended no apologies if it was lol.
As for the ram...not as good a deal as I would have liked but good in the end still. -
Pardon my ignorance. I was browsing the OCZ website and came across this laptop memory: http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_pc2_6400_ddr2_sodimm
(PC2-6400 DDR2) and was wondering if this would work on the m1330? or it wouldn't take advantage the extra speed. Can't help notice the processor is 800FSB whilst the memory is only 667MHz. -
The RAM would work fine although the present SantaRosa platform cannot take advantage of the 800Mhz speed. If your thinking of getting the more expensive because of that, it is not worth the upgrade as the system cannot take advantage of the 800Mhz speed.

My recommendation
Whichever is the cheapest.
When i originally ordered my m1330 back in june 4gb of ram was about $200 by the time i got it i ended up shelling $250 for 4gb. -
Anyone who still needs 4G, PM me.
Or.... richard at nessnet dot com
I bought 4G, them my replacement came with 4G, so I have
(2 X 2G) Crucial just sitting in my desk drawer.
Basically brand new.
It really needs a new home. -
M8, if you want to upgrade tp 4gb of RAM what i did was went to Newegg.com and bought two of the "G.SKILL 2GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)" for only $209.98. The G.Skill got the highest rating + Lowest price for 2gb Notebook RAM on Newegg.com. Seriously check it out!

As you said, everything starts up within a second and Windows boots up hella fast AND the desktop is usable instantly... On the 2GB setup I needed to wait for some things to load before the desktop was responsive.
All in all... I say go 4GB... You can NEVER have too much RAMAnd if you don't go 64 today I'm sure you will before you are done with the machine...
What memory brand is best for 4gb on a m1330?
