I've got a 120gb HD in my Inspiron 1520, and want to replace that with a bigger one (preferably at least 500 gb).

Looking at Dell's website, however, I can't find a single HD to buy that would fit. And phoning Dell's computer service, they said they didn't have any.

Is it possible for me to get one (with the casing if possible)?

You can get up to a 750 GB 2.5" SATA drive. 1 TB drives are all 12.5mm and are not compatible with the Inspiron 1520's 9.5mm drive caddy. You would just reuse your old hard drive caddy..

    Thanks for your helpful reply.

    Two follow-up questions:
    - Does this mean I can buy any 2.5" SATA drive (5400 as well as 7200 rpm)?
    - It's easy to re-use my old caddy?

(As you just might be able to tell, I'm no computer wiz...) ;)

    1) Yes, 5400 rpm, 7200 rpm or a 2.5" SATA SSD.
    2) For the Vostro 1500/Inspiron 1520 it is 2 Phillips and the hard drive caddy comes off. Just make note of the orientation of the SATA drive when you reinstall it

Dell are usually fairly expensive for replacement HDDs, so it's probably best to shop elsewhere. Also you'll get a wider choice.

If you buy an external hard drive case you can use your old drive as an external drive too.
