Ok. I don't feel like going through the hazzle of the screen crap and I do want a 15.4 with wsvga+ resolution.

Can anyone recommend any other brands that offer the same specs for about the same price?

    Thanks

I doubt you are going find it cheaper else where.
So far, Dell is only Vendor that can offer a 8600gt and still keep the cost low. My advice is that go ahead and give it a shot. You really got nothing to lose except a few weeks :p

the compal ifl90 is on sale VERY cheap at zipzoomfly if you can put a few parts in.. prob the best direct competitor to the 1500/1520.

see my thread in the deals section. very well configured for under 1300$ and you can even eliminate the os if you aready have one and saw like another 110$ making it just a hair over 1100$ with a t7500, 8600gt with 512 mb on it, 160gb 7200rpm drive, 2gb of ram, wireless n, etc... a heck of a deal there

    http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10006842

thats is 650$ add t7500, 4gb of ram, 250gb hdd, wireless card, and os...and still be just over 1300$ for all that... just assemble it yourself!!!!

even has free shipping on it.. thats crazy cheap, buy the base unit from zipzoomfly and the rest from newegg since they are far cheaper on parts... thats a steal..

    650$ base unit
    250$ t7500
    190$ 4gb of ram
    170$ 250gb western digital hdd
    20$ wireless g or 40$ wireless n ====

1300.00 for all that ... insane

Well, just by chance started looking at the Lenovo notebooks and found out the outlet was having a nice sale. Decided to go with the T61 thinkpad.
Doesn't have the fastest graphics card or true life screen but I feel more comfortable that the Thinkpad will be better built with good components.

And unlike Dell outlet, these units are still new and unused.

    Ended up with:

    T61
    T7300 2.0 cpu
    2G ram
    nvidia 140m graphics
    15.4" wsxvga+ screen
    dvd burner
    bluetooth

    Outlet price with tax: $1076

Hopefully I made a good choice.

    Thanks for your input
