I remember i8kfangui, but I seem to remember it plays poorly with Vista.

Is that still the case? Is there a better alternative?

Where can I download the latest version of i8kfangui if its the best choice?

i8kfangui is OK for Vista, but it needs calibrating with newer laptops.
I remember reading not long ago that it didn't work with the M1530, but it should be fine with the 9400. I use it on my 1720.

Use HWmonitor or Riva Tuner or Everest or ATItool or some other temperature utility and see what temperatures they report. (I like HWmonitor because it is easy and the temperatures it reports seem to agree with Riva Tuner and the other utilities I've tried.) Compare the temperatures reported by the other utilities with the ones i8kfangui report. Then go to Options and then the Advanced tab on i8kfangui, and you can enter offset temperatures. Also check the other tabs to make sure that i8kfangui is actually set to monitor graphics card temperatures.

Well, it still doesn't work for my computer. When it pushes it up to max fan power, it can't decide on a fan RPM. The fans will wildly go up and down in RPM, up and down, up and down... which is extremely irritating and likely not good for the fans. Oh well...guess my computer can keep overheating.

That doesn't sound right. Maybe you need to adjust the temperature ranges for when the fans are low vs when they're on high. Have you ever cleaned out the heat sink? If it gets full of dust it can cause overheating. And if you have the 7900GS graphics card, you don't want it overheating.

I have adjusted. The fans do not do that when the BIOS controls them. My video card usually gets up to 92c when I game and 75 idle.
