genearlly i would put dell screens in the crap catagory compared with Sony, Fujitsu, and Toshiba screens. I have a Toshiba P105, with only 1440 res, but it has none of the problems of the dells and contrast, saturation, ect is so much better.

    yawn

i have a (dell) wuxga and it's perfect.

no light leakage, perfect light spread, no dead/stuck pixels, great colors.

i recently purchased a 1505 for my father with a wxga screen. it is also perfect. no light leakage, perfect light spread, no dead/stuck pixels, great colors.

Some say the 1705 (9400) with the wuxga is better than the wxga (wsxga+?), so I'm not surprised you say "it's perfect".

The 1505 with the low end wxga "perfect" ? You'd be the first one to report that. Everyone else is saying they're seeing at least "some" light leakage.

Dell uses a LG or Samsung screen for the M1710.
I heard the LG one is better. I have it, and have no leakage, and the colors are all fine..

As someone who took delivery of an M1710 with a SAMSUNG screen, a few comments:

    1. IS there light leakage at the bottom? Yes; it's noticable on boot. But after that ... it's not noticable AT ALL.

    2. When watching a letterboxed DVD or other screen with a black bottom: strangely, it's not as bad as the boot screen.

Of course, I must say that the screen at MAX is far too bright. I changed it to setting "5" in BOTH Quickset AND the BIOS.

yea there is definetly some light leakage in all the new dell laptops ive seen lately(e1705, e1505, and my xps m1710). All of it is out of the bottom. Other than that, the screens look great :)

Yeah, the light leakage on my M1710 is at the bottom too, but overall the screen has way less leakage than the screen on the E1705.
