I'm going to order my dell notebook tomorrow and I'm unsure of what screen to get currently I have a 15.4" that is 1280x800 and I find the resolution adequate although sometimes I do wish I had more space.
I was considering the 1440X900 screen, and spec wise it seems to be better then the others (brighter, higher contrast) although I don't see too many people getting that screen.
I plan to play games on this notebook and I'm weary of the 1680x1050 screen because I like to play at native resolution and I don't see too many current games doing so well at this resolution.
So I'm left with the compromise... the 1440 screen. I was hoping to pick up some advice, so any info or opinion would be great! thanks![]()

i have it and it looks great! i had the wxga first but im glad i upgraded to the wxga+. Much better viewing angles and the extra realistate is great!

anyone else with some input?

Mine has the 1440X900, and I love it

i've been around since the launch of these two....
in the beginning WXGA+ was the most grainy -
I have the 1440x900 screen on my Vostro 1500. It has an uneven backlight which leaks, really poor viewing angles, and it's grainy. When you turn the brightness all the way up, it is quite bright, but that's when the backlight problems are most noticeable.

You may find the WSXGA+ (1680 X 1050) a bit too much for playing games, however I am under the impression that you also have the best chance of getting a good screen.
I received my Vostro 1500 about 3 weeks ago and the WSXGA+ was an LG (LPLF300) and it is perfect. -
With the WSXGA+ screen how does it look when you scale it down to 1280X800? does it look acceptable for gaming? I dont mind spending the extra money, I am VERY particular about my screen. I'm still using a vp191 on my desktop because I have yet to find a screen I like as much. One reson I'm choosing dell over lenovo is because I know if I get a bad screen and I complain enough about it I can get it replaced

My WSXGA+ screen was yellowish, had bad viewing angles, and colors were off-color. Others in this forum have gotten grainy WSXGA+ screens. Zfactor got something like 5 bad WSXGA+ screens in a row, and after the last replacement he gave up. I don't think a WSXGA+ screen is a sure bet on a 15" laptop at all.

I went to the dell kiosk in the mall this evening and saw the 1520 with the WSXGA+ screen and it was one of the grainy ones, at fist I thought, well this isn't so bad.. but after a while it game me a head ache, the text was ever so slightly blurry, and the grainy background really started to bug me. I'm going to take my chances I suppose if its not right I can always send it back for replacement.

don't think your replacement will necessarily be any better. mine wasn't...
it seems the vostro 1500s have less screen issues. you may notice that they are outselling the 1520s by a large mark, when only a month or two ago the 1520s were on top. i think this is a direct consequence of the screen issues... you may have a better chance of getting the LG screen on a vostro, which seems to be the only decent one at the wsxga+ resulution.
if you do order a wsxga+... make sure you request the LFPL300 screen. the LG screen, i think the part number is XK309. they will probably tell you they can do it no problem, and then you'll receive a grainy SEC3350.
sorry to sound so bitter but dell has lied to me many times. if i were you i would avoid dell until you are sure they have resolved the LCD issues. -
Frankly, given how particular you are about the screen, which I can understand, it might be a better idea to avoid online stores and buy your laptop from a real store, where you can try it before you buy it.

It's definitely worth it to make sure you have a great screen since that's what you'll be looking at most of the time.
I have the LG screen on my Vostro - it's one of the best displays I've ever seen.
What screen for 1500/1520?
