Well I've had my Vostro 1500 now for 5 weeks.
At first I didn't notice the grain, but now I see it really easy.
I've tried calling in about it, first time the technician just said stuff like Dell America was doing some survey or something because of the issue, they were getting alot of returns for grainy screens. He told me that I now was in it too, and that they'd contact me in the future about this.
I called 2 days later to try to talk to another guy but he looked at the previous times I had contacted them and just told me the same thing.

Since the 2 weeks "return & no questions asked" time is up, I can't demand them to do anything..

And I've got the cpu whine too :/

So what do you recommend me to do? Is there anything I can do? That whole lcd investigation sounds quite big, annoying, slow and like it won't do any difference.

At least you don't have a picture of a fat naked lady embedded in your LCD like I do. You can just make it out if you look hard enough. Well, maybe you do. Do you? OMG you do!

    which screen do you have?

dell won't do anything. the whole survey thing is a delay tactic to get you past your return period, i would guess.

It may be past the return period, but it's still under warranty. Tell them it's defective and they need to fix it.

Get on that phone and be as stern and demanding as possible. you dished out 1000+ dollars out for that damn thing.. even at 500 dollars they still owe you. They didn't tell you it'd have a grainy screen before you bought it so you're entitled to a new damn screen. Don't let a lazy ass rep brush you off his shoulder like dandruff because he doesn't wanna fill out any dispatch papers or go through any pain in the ass procedures.

If being stern and demanding doesn't work be a complete ass hat, sorry if people disagree but if all else fails what else can you do? Sit back and do nothing?

Frig.. Dell and the screen manufactures should have been ready for the back to school demand the stupid dips, if they were no screens would have been rushed and result in this grain crap. It's about as stupid move as releasing a gaming console or new shiny gadget everyone wants after holiday session.

    ---

Cpu whine is out of even Dells hands, this problem has been in systems since the dawn of time I'd say. Just get a copy of RMclock until Dell gets this Bios fix out the doors. Solves it entirely.

Be respectful and firm. I would highly recommend not acting like an ass hat as not only will the forum turn against you, but you won't get anything in return since the CSR will just hang up.

Don't be an asshat, but be very firm with them. If they still don't budge, then get cranky. It's under warranty. They are bound to replace manufacturing defects.

I actually paid $1500 since the taxes in Sweden are 25%

I find it hard to be really demanding, since I don't really know what to say to him.

Last time i spoke to a csr i said to him that the screen shouldn't be what it currently is like, and people HAS gotten clear screens (LG), and that i wanted to return mine to get one like theirs.

But then he just said "you will most likely just get another one that is the same and that wont solve anything, all you can do is wait"

I mean, that is just so lazy, and it feels like he doesn't really give a **** about helping me setting up a pickup to send it back to the factory. And because of that im stuck with it now..
I would be so happy if the screen would be a LG, because the rest of the laptop is awesome.

How 'bout this: "I would like my screen replaced". Just keep saying that until they replace your screen.
