So according to the specs, the Studio 15 is 6.11 pounds, whereas the m1530 is 5.8.

However, PC mag stated that the m1530 is 6.2 while the studio 15 is 5.9

So anyone care to venture a guess?

It sounds almost nuts, but the macbook pro at 5.3 or 5.4 pounds is massively lighter than the m1530 in my book. Myabe it's the Steve Jobs reality distortion field. So that's why I'm thinking 6.2 lbs vs 5.9 may be something to think about here.

A standard Studio 15 is 6.11 lbs. and a standard m1530 is 5.78 lbs. Macbook Pro is 5.4 lbs. The difference between the Studio and m1530 or m1530 and MBP probably won't be noticable, but it will be between the Studio and Macbook. I would go with the m1530 or if you don't need great graphics the m1330 @ 3.97 lbs.

Man I would go with the 15" Studio. The new ATi graphics card has me very intrigued.

Are you intrigued as to how much slower it will be than the 8600M in the XPS?

Yeah the HD3450 is a joke, however if the 15" Studio had a HD3650 option like the 17" Studio then it would be as fast in games as the XPS M1530.

And that's why it doesn't; Dell doesn't want to have competing laptops.

Is the 3450 about the same as the 8400M GS?
    And is the 3850 a 8800GTS, and a 3870 a 8800GTX?

Its like a 8500GT in terms of video playback since it plays blu-ray very well. Gamingwise its like a X1400.

I don't suppose the speakers in the Studio are any better than the ones in the M1530.

i totally agree, no point of having two laptop lines competing against each other under the same company. if they made the studio same level or better, it will replace the XPS's sales.

    desktops: 3850 < 9600 GT, 3870 < 8800 GT - unless u meant the 4850 and 4870...

Another thing to consider is if the video card has DDR2 or DDR3 memory, I am pretty sure I read that the 3650 in the Studio 17 has DDR2 memory which will slow it down... The 8600M GT that is found in the XPS line has DDR3 memory but there are DDR2 versions as well that are slower! Just something to keep in mind!
