AnandTech - Dell XPS L501x: An Excellent Mainstream Notebook (Only difference is an I7 core instead of I5)
To keep it short my brother sort of needs a laptop for one of his classes at LSU. It mostly needs a word processor but, this option came along and I'm trying to find out how much would be a good asking price? The device is a year old with no warranty left.

That model laptop is more than a year old (it's using the first-gen Core i series), so it'd maybe be around $200-$400? Something like that.
If it's just for word processing, I'd probably look into a newer, budget-business laptop instead. It'd have a warranty on it and the battery life will be a lot longer than on a used laptop with the original battery (or even with a new battery, since the current platforms are much more energy-efficient). Maybe check into a Latitude E5430 or E5530 with upgraded displays?
(unrelated, but I had no idea there were any other Hellsing fans here lol)

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Yeah, looking at the eBay completed listings, you should be paying in the 300s for an OOW base spec unit. I would also second a business notebook though, especially if you can get the standard 3-year warranty.

Yeah, at first I was thinking it may be a pretty good deal but, I can't really find much in the way of it being sold even second party any more.
Seemed like a pretty solid buy but, the more I think about it the less appealing it seems.
My brother managed to find a solution without paying for it luckily. I managed to forget that I7 is pretty old now. The main reason it was a somewhat appealing idea was because we were thinking it may be somewhat more powerful than a similar than a more energy efficient model since he will most likely have enough battery life.
Still, I agree with most of your points guys. Thanks for the help.
Kuroi, I'm a major Hellsing fan. It has almost as much symbolism and allegory as blood, which I fight delightful. -
The problem with that idea is that the older processors do less work for more energy than today's processors (or even the Sandy Bridge ones).
Lol, this is one of the few times I don't have a Hellsing avatar. Already have the entire anime (meh), the OVA 1-8 box set (yes!), and mangas 6/9/10 (I need the rest). -
I'm aware of what I'd call the "standard tradeoffs" if you will. Even if it is less efficient if it has the ability to play a few games, do word processing, etc and was a good deal then, the fact that it's not "top of the line" becomes far more acceptable.
But, from what I'm hearing it's just not a good deal anyway we splice it. I'm glad you guys actually chimed in because my girlfriend was actually considering replacing her mac too. Sadly I don't think she will find anything she is looking for in a laptop but, at least she is aware of it.
I need to find box sets for all of it >.<; I've read the entire manga/watched both anime's and have been waiting for a box set for the OVA/Manga that I still haven't found. -
Well, if she decided to buy, you can always post in the WNBSIB section so we can help out.
Anyway...
OVA 1-4 Dubbed: Amazon.com: Hellsing Ultimate: Volumes 1-4 Collection [Blu-ray/DVD Combo]: Crispin Freeman, K.T. Gray, Victoria Harwood, Ralph Lister, Steven Brand, Dino Andrade, Taliesin Jaffe, Tomokazu Tokoro, Hideki Tonokatsu: Movies & TV
OVA 5-8 Dubbed: Amazon.com: Hellsing Ultimate: Volumes 5-8 Collection (Blu-ray/DVD Combo): Crispin Freeman, Katie Gray, Victoria Harwood, Tallesin Jaffe: Movies & TV
Kind of annoyed that they're cheaper now, since I got them when the 5-8 were a month old :/. But whatever. 9 and 10 are still Japanese (Eng. Sub) only, but can be watched online. But anyway, the box set looks great and has some great extras:
What would be a good buying price for this laptop?
