    Or
    IntelĀ® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards (+ $49)

What benifits does bluetooth have? what are the downsides? I have a bluetooth enabled phone what special things can I do if i get the bluetooth?

If your phone is bluetooth enabled, you could send files back and forth between your laptop & your phone (Games, Wallpapers, Video, Ringtones). With special software, you could also sync your phone with your PC (phonebook calendar, etc.)

With bluetooth, you could also connect wirelessly with other bluetooth devices: Mice, Keyboards, Printers, Other Laptops, Phones, Handheld PC's, Speakers, Head phones... just to name a few.

You don't HAVE to pay $49 for the internal bluetooth upgrade from Dell. If you don't mind, you could also purchases a USB bluetooth dongle for much less (around $10).

Generally if you are asking about BT, chances are that you won't need it. There are a lot of devices with BT including mouse, PDA, phone, headphones, printers (although I wouldn't recommend going with a printer), etc.

Most of us get BT cause we have a phone or PDA that has bluetooth in enable on it. BT basically cuts the need for cords. You don't have to carry so many cords around to connect the device to your laptop.

Lets say you had a phone with BT. If your computer didn't have BT, then you would need a cord to connect your phone to your laptop so you could transfer contacts/address book, maybe connect to the internet, etc. If your computer does have bluetooth, you could do all of that, but you wouldn't need a cord.

So that is the plus side. The downside is that you can't go very far away from your laptop in order for the BT to stay connected. It is a short range network, so you won't be able to have your laptop at the other end of your our house and expect to connect to it from your phone. It primarly goes only a couple of feet.

Another downside is that the software can be a pain to work. Usually once you get a device connected to it the first time, you won't have any trouble. Yet there have been several times where i've had trouble just trying to install the software. The last downfall of BT is that there are not very many devices that have BT. PDAs and mouse are the main devices that do have BT enable. There are some phones and headphones, but overall there isn't a wide range of devices to choose from.

Also, you can always add BT at a later date if you decide that you want it. Ultimately, the choice between the two cards just depends on whether you want BT or not. The wireless cards are the exact same.

I have a Razr and a BT enabled E1505. I like to be able to send pics to / from my phone, as well as use a program called MP3 Shrink (free program) to make my own (free) ringtones and send them over via BT.

Sure, I'll have to find the link again tonight when I get home, but I'll send it to you... hopefully it'll help you. What it basically does is allow you to trim off a song from the front and back, it's small, and super quick to use once you figure it out. One word of warning, be sure you always choose "save as" because otherwise you'll save right over your original mp3, and that's not good! I found also, just FYI, that my Razr only rings for like 20 seconds, so no need to make the mp3 too long.

I use MPT(Motorola Phone Tools) to transfer all my images, ringtones, videos, contacts, and all that stuff between my RAZR V3c and E1505 via bluetooth. It was kinda of a pain to get it to work the first time, but once it worked once its worked since then.... until I traded my RAZR V3c in then I had to go through the process of getting it to work again.

    Ebs:
Does your phone support music tones? My razr supports music tones, and it recognized the snippets I put there as ringtones with no problem.

    Syndome:
Isn't Motorola Phone Tools like 30 dollars? I can send everything other than contacts easily without it, but if it's free I'd like to try it.
