I want to get a computer and have been browsing around for a perfect one. My definition of a perfect notebook is one with really really long battery life. Do u know if Dell is any good in battery life?? Is there an specific model that i should look at. YOur help would be greatly appreciated. I'm just going to have to try every brand.

    Thanks alot

I believe one of the IBM Thinkpads (T40?) lasts a good 5-6 hours.

You will want to get a notebook with the Pentium M processor if you want loger battery life. My IBM thinkpad R40 (2897gau) gets 6 hours 20 minutes consistantly.

You guys do know that this is a Dell forum and that you have been sitting in here pimping IBM.

From experiance I have got the Dell 8600 to last 5hrs this is will all power saving features, low contrast, low vid card setting, speedstep at its lowest. I managed to play 2 full length dvd's on it as well without any stoppage. Could have watched a few more as I had another battery with me.

    Hi winters,
Neither I nor spets are pimping IBM, xh_unknown asked what notebook has the Max battery life in the title of his/her post. I told them to look at the M processor for longest battery life and listed the battery life I get from my IBM and spets also just answered the question by posting the notebook he thought has the longest life. I think xh_unknown is just looking for the longest battery life notebook they can get. Were around here just to help and learn from other notebook users. Just because this the Dell forum does not mean all answers point to Dell. In fact if I'm answering questions I don't even look to see which forum they are in most of the time, I just go to the recent/hot topics on the main page and see whats new and go to topics that interest me.

BTW what battery are you using in your 8600? From the 3 reviews I've read on the 8600 with a 72Whour battery all 3 had a 219 minute(3.6hours) +- a few minutes rating using the BAPCo mobilemark 2002 battery benchmark and only ~193 minutes (just over 3 hours)on DVD playback.

pimpin ibm's, that's a laugh. Thinkpad's are the the least pimpin' notebooks I have ever seen. [ :p]
I'm not knocking their components, but the paint job, well, they could do with some purple Flames!!!

    Its a 8600
    1.4 pM
    64mb Video
    512mb ram

Normal battery. You can get about 3hrs 45 mins out of it with brightness at full but when you crank it all the way down you can get 5 hrs. Some people say that it is too dark stock but ive had to turn it down when using it because I found it too bright (Depends on lighting).

This is my dads cpu and I'm somewhat interested in a little higher speced model of it or the Acer 2012lmi. Still deciding the pros and cons. And wondering whether 500 3dmark points is a big deal to me.

Yeah I know your not pimping IBM but it seems every post deals with it.
