I'm checking into buying one of these two computers in the next week and I wanted to know which one is going to be more powerful in terms of multi-tasking and light gaming. Let me know cause I want to know if the xps is really a better performer considering a maxed out vostro.

i would go with the XPS M1330. It's slim and lightweight (if thats a factor)
the extra jump from 2GB -> 4GB and T7100 to T7500 isn't that great if you're going to be using the laptop for normal things. Are you going to be processing large text files? if so get the vostro -

yeah I posted up in the "Which laptop should I buy" forum and everyone seemed to be biased based on form factor. I'm not really going to be word processing, and form factor is nice on the xps, but from a performance aspect, the vostro maxxed is a lot cheaper than an xps at medium specs. I'm going to be doing a lot of web browsing, email, and multi tasking. Games played will be WC3 and WOW mostly....
-
that's a talent..how did you manage to make them so expensive without adding on any good addons, like upgrading the video card, etc?
LOL
-
I say the Vostro 1400. Its cheaper yet has more ram, better cpu and essentially is a better buy.

Dump the RAM.
They really jipp you on RAM on 2 gigs and upward.
Buy your own. You'd save a LOT of money. -
If you dont mine the weight, size, and style on 1400, I would go with 1400 for the performance.
But with what you are doing, m1330 will also satisfied your need.
I personally would go with m1330 if I were you.
I do a lot of web browsing at home on my couch, and I use it on my lap. I find the small and light weight factor is really nice.
I also use my m1330 a lot for multimedia on my HDTV. The HDMI connectivity is a big plus. DVD play back is amazing, both video and audio. -
$450 for upgrade from 1GB to 4GB is a ripoff. You can buy a single 2GB dimm for $90. Even if you buy two, you'd still save at least $250, and its literally a 5 minute task at most to change out the ram.
An extra $105 to go from the T7300 to the 7500 is also a waste...the extra 200 mhz won't make a difference. Save yourself the money and use it to cover your ram upgrade.
Vista Ultimate for an extra $199 is also a ripoff. Just call them and have them upgrade to premium for $29.
Looks like I just saved you about $525. You can thank me later. Put that extra 500 bucks in an aggressive mutual fund and then in 2-3 years when you're ready to buy another machine, you'll have it mostly paid for with your savings from this one. -
LOL @ boonkauc.
Good advice. -
Or, you can use the extra $525 to put together a desktop that will outperform your laptop
-
Nice boon
Sorry for my wiseass remark, lol, it just seems insane to pay over 2K for a Vostro 1400...Most people have been paying less than 1000 the past few weeks and getting some kickass machines....
A vostro 1400 is not worth over 2K..I don't care what specs you put into it...if you have that much money to spend, you should go for an IBM/Lenovo...
Anyways, take the rest of the advice..and definitely do the RAM upgrade yourself...Or at least don't buy 4GB from Dell !
What's better a maxxed Vostro 1400 or XPS m1330?
