What's up with the configuration inconsistencies?

I've been checking out dell notebooks and using their system builder for the past few days. And every time I configure a system there's always something different in their config options. Mind you, sometimes this is with the same exact model.

For example, I will customize a Studio 15 and it will let me select the "No security software" option, which is nice because I hate bloatware. But then I will try again in an hour or two and that option will be gone and I'll be forced to choose the Mcafee trial.

The same goes for the Wifi card selection. Sometimes an intel option is present, sometimes dell and at other times both are on the list.

Why does this happen? Am I just an idiot and missing something?

You're not an idiot lol - well at least not from your observation ;)

I've noticed that as well over the past 2 weeks as I just purchased a system. It seems like they are trying to perfect their inventory system so that they can give more accurate ship dates. Right now Dell over estimates the delivery date so that the consumer gets it earlier which is nice, but they get a lot of cancellations because some consumers can't wait as long as advertised.

The different options you're seeing are based on hardware availability. Now, it shouldn't make any difference on availability if mcafee or no security option is available since it is software. I don't care to spend the time figuring out what is what, but it seems like certain software is linked to certain hardware. So if a Dell wifi card is selected, mcafee is forced on you, or if Intel is an option, the user can deselect security software. So for that example there is probably an agreement that says if user purchases Dell Wifi, Mcafee must be included. They probably have a ton of agreements in place, that's my best guess as to why configuration options change so often.

this is what they call AI.... the web server at Dell's end would recognize you (from your cookies or IP) and try to give you a configuration based on your past searches and stuff... and (for example) if they 'see' you hovering around your cart with a config but not buying, might offer you something better if you redo the cart (not always true, but something like that)

clear ur cookies and try again (or use www.kejut.com/operaportable ... F12 = enable cookies
