Since i will be a new owner of a Notebook I have been on a lot of Forums lately trying to get as much info as possible making sure I am buying the right product for me.
I ordered my 9200 last night and today at 9:00 central time my production status is in testing? That seems really fast compared to what I have read from other people can anyone confirm what I am thinking? How long is testing stage? My expected ship date when i ordered last night was 2 weeks (DEC 8th). Since its in testing I was wondering if it will be coming sooner.
So far I have really enjoyed all the help and advice from everyone thanks.

-
we have the same config except i have 1gb ram and dvdrw, others are the same. Wow, i guess if yours is in testing stage then thell prob ship it in the next couple of days. pls post back updates on your order.[

I ordered mine 11-03-04 and it is still in pre-production too. I wrote them about it, and they gave me just a pre-written canned reply that didnt help at all. I will let you know if I get it soon or if anything changes...
-
i called them up today and they just keep on bringing me from finacial office to customer care bringing me nowhere??? well i guess all i can do is just wait till the accual ship date, december 9, 2004[
]
-
Actually, on closer inspection the "InProduction" category has a few branches:
Order Processing: Sunday, November 14, 2004
Pre-production: Sunday, November 14, 2004
In Production:
*Kitting
*Build
*Testing
Boxing
So my order has apparently been through kitting, build, and testing, just not "boxing."

awww crappp!!! cause mine is all the way in the beginning. in the order processing. jeeezzeee time to call them up again!!!
-
I have faith in Dell and the machine they are making for me... I could have more faith if they gave me an Extra brite display. I thought there would be people who would have received their 9200 today.
-
i just had a talk with dell customer care and they have told me that my order was in hold because of technichal errors... i was so upset... if i hadnt call, they will never build my system[
!]. but now im rellying on you guys to give honest feedback on your systems when you get it cause if its not that good, then its not worth my time and money...[
]
-
I think someone said they would have theirs tommorow.
Anyhow, I'm sure it will be a tremendous upgrade from the 2 year old 8200 I have with 384 MB RAM, and integrated graphics card, and a 1.7 Ghz Processor. LOL. -
Yes!!! my inspiron9200 is finally starting to build. after the misserable talk with dell people who said they had technical errors on some of the orders placed online(???) they finally put mine in production. i hope the one whoes gonna get it tommorow will post whats up with your inspiron9200[

Dnt Waste Time!!! You Dnt Know When YOur Day Will End!!! -
Well hate to say this but I'm out of TESTING and in BOXING!!!! I feel real bad for those who have placed an order way before mine and are still in PROCESSING... But you never know they might forget to tape my box correctly and my laptop could fall out the bottom...[
]
-
lol! its ok cause it give me time to listen on your feedbacks and if its worth the money so im looking forward to your feedbacks!!!

Yeah, dell also screwed up my order... i ordered on OCT31ST and it went smooth and went into boxing last week on monday and then at friday it went back into "InProduction" and when i called it said in the build stage... then on monday i checked status and it was still screwed up and in forums people said thiers were shipping and they ordered thiers after mine... so i canceled and reordered on monday with 25% coupon enableing me to get a 1.8ghz proc upgrade from 1.6ghz and the bigger battery while saving $40 so i wasent all too pissed since i got upgrades and money back due to dells retardedness (i figured it woudl take them till dec1st when it was supposed to ship to call and say ughh ur order is screwed reorder now at expensive prices and get it in january).....
so the order i placed on monday immediatly went into building and on tudsday it was in testing and today its in boxing hopefully next week i get it since i was originally planning to have it for thanksgiving break [xx(] -
Hey Deviant 25
Quote " ... so i canceled and reordered on monday with 25% coupon "
Did you do this with the same rep, at the same time?
To All: is there a better 'coupon' deal than the 20% off a 8600 being offered on the main website currently..??
thanks
Albie J -
i did it all online it was a 1 day only 25% off
-
I as well took advantage of the one day 25% which was a bigger discount than $200 off and 12% off for being a student. Saved me overal an additional $300
-
I spoke with a Dell rep today and he was very helpful. He had said depending on the different options and upgrades on the Dell 9200, the production dates could be off, which I can understand. But he also said that when it does go through the different stages (in production, kitting, building, or whatever they are) they go really fast. It isn't like a gradual thing, it just happens mostly all at once. He said mine, which is due to ship out on Dec 3rd could be ready to go anytime although it only says pre-production at the moment. Also, you have 21 days after you receieve the Dell that you can order extras, or whatver for it at the price you would have paid if you had ordered it with the Dell. After that, you will be paying the full price, just an FYI.
-
Well... if that's the case (i.e., kitting, testing, etc.) why the heck have I been at "boxing" for over three days? [
]
Something tells me "boxing" isn't a very technical procedure. -
Boxing means your Notebook/Desktop is in transit from the Dell manufacturing facility, to the shipping facility. This process usually takes about 3 - 4 business days

Aha! Thanks!
-
Well, I finally got to the boxing stage. It actually happened rather quickly. Just got me thinking though, this was on Thanksgiving and they were cranking this computer out so they must be really trying to get these babies out asap working on the holidays and all(hopefully anyway). Well I had heard it takes a while in the boxing stage, so I will just anticipate the shipping soon enough. I am hoping it is a marketing ploy to have the shipping projected up a few days from Dell, but for them to actually ship it early giving everyone the impression that it was very quick. hehe Just a thought. Good luck everybody!
-

I was annoyed today. I ordered the Inspiron XPS. My shipping date still shows Dec 3, yet I received an e-mail today stating that their has been a 6 day delay. It is in the boxing stage. I tried calling Dell and after 45 minutes finally reached a human. They told me it was supposed to ship today. They had know idea why I got that e-mail, but when I asked them if it was correct, they said my e-mail superceded their system. So, my notebook is obviously not going out today. Hopefully the 'magical' boxing stage won't take them more than the anticipated 3-4 business days. Would be nice if the left hand talked to the right. Irritating!
Whats average time in each Production Category?
