    Heya,

Just wondering what would be safe to use to clean an xps of smudges? Like rubbing alcohol? Will it ruin the microsatin or the aluminum finish? These smudges i cant take off with simply "wiping/rubbing" it with the cloth that came with the laptop.

    Thanks!

Just for the sake of testing since I am shipping back my old M1530, I have tried just now using rubbing alcohol on the screen and the aluminum. It cleans it very well and no discoloration or damage resulted from it.... so.. your good.

I have also just used Clorox wipes on the screen and body. It works VERY well. I think I prefer the wipes over the cloth just because you have to do extra steps in wetting it, etc. Plus they are disposable so... you wont have to wash any cloth or anything between use.

    moist baby wipes?

Maybe not for the screen because it will streak, but for the rest of it you should be safe.

I don't know if I would want to put Clorox on my system. Do those wipes have bleach on them?

I figure if baby wipes are good for the skin of small children, that they would be safe to wipe fingerprints and such off plastic and brushed aluminum.

Get some Windex glass wipes. They should be safe, too.

Ok, cool. What is on them, then?

I think some sort of glass cleaning wipes might work best.

The amonia free Windex might be good, too.

I use methylated spirits (95% ethanol) in a spray bottle and a piece of cloth to clean most electronics.

Those hemorrhoid wipes work really well. They are gentle on the finish.

Never use anything with ammonia on electronic equipment, especially screens. I use a microfibre towel with a spray of tint safe glass cleaning that is non-amonia based. Works like a charm.

Ditto. MF cloth and liquid cleaner made for glasses. Somehow, I'd not trust Clorox anything near my notebook.

Simplest solution: Work with powder-free gloves on!! ;-)

But on a serious note, I agree with flipfire - I have been doing the same for years now :) I would second this!!

I have actually considered this possibility very seriously myself, but decided against it in the end :D

baby wipes usually have some kinda lotion in them to keep the baby butt soft. probably would leave a film on hard surfaces
