I see that Dell only sells 15.6" screen sized laptops. What is the difference? Why did they make it 0.2 longer?

    They changed the aspect ratio

Before it was 16:10 (for every 16" wide it was 10" tall) now it's 16:9
    It's to match HDTVs

The 15.6" screens are alright but the one's with lower resolution (1280x800) make browsing tedious. You have to scroll alot more.

There is no 1280x800 option in a 15.6".

To answer your original question, King Wolf, lottdod_1999 summed it up well: the new 15.6" notebooks have the 16:9 width to height ratio of HDTV's, so they can use HDTV resolutions like 720p (1366x768) and 1080p (1920x1080). The 15.4" models use the more computer-oriented 16:10 aspect ratio, with resolutions like 1280x800, 1440x900, and 1920x1200.
