    Hi
I browsed through both dell.com and dell small business and I was wondering what was the difference? Am I not allowed to order from dell small business if I'm not a business? Also which ones tend to have better deals if their inventory is same/similar? Thanks for any information you might have! [IMG]

Anyone can order from small business. You'll just end up putting in your name in the business name portion of the configurator :p The difference is the systems that are sold there and the support.

Vostro's used to be just rebadged inspirions but now they are models of their own. They are notebooks designed for small business.

Latitudes are a "step up"- They have more premium features like 3 year warranties, American tech support, backlit keyboards, etc.

Vostro's tend to be cheaper than their Inspiron and Studio counterparts on the consumer end. But for that, you won't get any color/pattern choices except on the 2510 which comes in red. They do have a magnesium alloy chassis, and spill proof keyboards like their latitude siblings.

Both Latitude and Vostro's also come without any trial software preloaded. This allows you to have a clean fresh notebook, and you don't have to get rid of bloatware.

The business line like Vostros, Latitude uses more durable parts are less prone to scratches and dents than the Studio and XPS line. More use of harder plastic and stronger metals especially in the Latitude series.

AS for the original question, Dell Small Business just allows folks with businesses order options to meet their needs. If you're a reseller, you can put in your tax id to have taxes exempted if this is for resells.

I owned a Vostro 1400 and the Dell business support I got was definitely good enough to justify the purchase of the vostro over the insprion.

For example, I had a GPU problem in my 1400. I called Dell and within 15 minutes they had dispatched a new gpu and heatsink to an on-site technician who called me the next day to schedule a time to install the parts.

My experiences with the Dell business customer service have always been quick (under 20 minutes ) and informative. Whereas my girlfriend who has an inspiron has had plenty of problems with the normal Dell customer service, taking hours to solve a problem or talk to someone higher up.

Support is a lot better through the business side if you find what you need over there.

If you are gaming though the Latitude's high end video cards are more geared to CAD work then Gaming. Might be able to load different drivers to make them run as well as the gaming cards.

Yup - In my case about £250 for the same spec machine, a better Onsite Warranty rather than having to send it in and much better support all round.

I'd advise anyone to use small business.
