I know there are differences in cost. Are the screens, speakers, platforms, etc. comparable? Ive tried to search and found a few posts but please, can you tell me again? I'm leaning towards the 14.1 inch screen.
Also, whats the difference between the inspiron 1520 and 1521?
Sorry if this has been discussed already, many, many times. ;-)

Vostro is more of a business notebook. Most of the parts and specs are similar, but the Vostro has less pre-installed software than the inspiron. The 1520 has an intel proc, while the 1521 has AMD.

Is there a difference between these two processors which come on each Dell? 5270 vs. 5250? I think one is 1.4 vs. 1.5? Please advose.

Except for the price, color and support options, they both are same (v1500 = i1520, v1400=i1420 and v1700=i1720). (YES, this has been discusses many many times.)

1520 is based on the Intel platform (Intel 965 chipset + Core 2 Duo) while 1521 is based on AMD (AMD M690T chipset + Turion 64 X2). 1520 also has the option of faster dedicated graphics but 1521 only comes with Integrated graphics. Out of the two 1520 is the clear winner in terms of performance, however, on the other hand 1521 is cheaper and sufficient for average computing needs.

    T5250 > 1.5GHz/2MB L2 cache/ 667MHz FSB/ 65 nm architecture
    T5270 > 1.4GHz/2MB L2 cache/ 800MHz FSB/ 65 nm architecture

    Will have almost identical performance.

Thanks. The Vostro has the 5270 at a much better price but I wanted to be sure the specs were similar so I wouldnt be disappointed. Dell is offering a nice 1400 package in their OCT catalog on the back page. Intel core 2 duo,(5270), 2GB sdram, 120 HD, XGA+ w/ tru-life screen, 9 cell battery, and a better graphics card,(128 nvidia geforce @ 8400gs), for $749.00. Thought I might add an N card too. Hows this deal sound?
