After a fresh reformat and reinstallation of the drivers l tried running super pi and the best time l could get was 1m 45 sec with my core duo T2300. l should be getting about 20 seconds quicker times then that. Whats wrong? l only had super pi running when l was running it.

You probably reinstalled all the garbage too...
-
No l didn't. If you check add/remove programs l only have 15 things listed including firefox, msn messenger, divx, itunes and the drivers required. The xp recovery disk dell gives you doesn't reinstall all the bloatware.
-
Seems l have another issue. Apparently there are a few devices l have that don't have drivers and l have no idea what they are. l tried installing the drivers for them off of the drivers and utilities disk but it said the drivers couldnt be found. Heres a pic:
-
you probably didn't install Ricoh Chipset driver...
-
Oh, l didn't know l had to. When l was looking at the drivers on dells site l saw that and the intel chipset driver. l installed the intel drivers but l didn't know l had to install the other one..
-
Just installed it and is now fixed, thanks. NOW l have another problem. Whenever my processor is idling and has no load on it theres like a humming or scratching sound coming from my laptop. Sounds like the head in a HDD writing things to the disk but my HDD isn't being used. Whats wrong now..? -
What do you mean? Is it loud?
If you rest your hand on the computer, is there a slight vibration? -
Not really but im sitting in a quiet room right now and its drowning out the sound of the fan.
So l don't have to hear the sound i've got superpi calculate to 32 million.
Great, i'm listening to a song now and l can hear this sound over the song (speakers are at about half of the max volume. -
Now l'm hearing something that sorta sounds like a piece of paper being hit by the sides of a fan going around. That along with the HDD reading sound.
-
Bump, hoping someone can help me with the super pi issue. l ran it while on battery and plugged in and l was getting the same times, more or less.
-
Did you install the latest drivers?
-
Also did you try any memory test?
-
Yeah l have all the latest drivers installed, and no l haven't run any memory tests, where can l get memtest?
-
Try prime95 and memtest86

Fix #1: Disabling Power Management in certain Devices
1.) Go into Device Manager
2.) Look for Bluetooth Devices & USB Root Hubs
3.) Right click -> Properties -> "Power Management" Tab
4.) Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn of this device to save power."
That should fix the problem. For me, all I had to do was disable power management on the Bluetooth chip. For others, disabling power management on the first USB Root Hub works. So you do'nt have to disable power management on all the devices. Play around with it and see what works.
Fix #2: RMClock
1.) Download and install RMClock here
2.) Go to "Management & Profiles"
3.) Check "Run HLT Command when OS is idle"
With this fix enabled, CPU usage will constantly be showing 100%, but don't worry, the actual CPU usage can be measured on the graph/icon in the taskbar. -
It sounds like harddisk bad sector.

l found out last night what the "problem" may have been with the super pi thing. Apparently you won't get good times unless you run it with the power settings set to "Always Plugged In" and have your laptop plugged in. When doing that l got 1m 26 seconds.
-
Yes
You need to be plugged in, otherwise the card ownclocks a but to save battery life (although the setting you put it on aviods this) -
I heard that you need to set the power management profile to home/office to get the processor running properly. If you have it set to Laptop is always throttles the processor back to 1.0Ghz.
Whats wrong with my E1405? Best 2m superpi = 1m 45 sec
