When Dell exchanges do they use same parts?

Well, I had it out with the company today and after a couple hours of escalation they agreed to send me a new machine (why they can't have just sent a part is beyond me). I will probably share my horror story in another thread somewhere. To make a long story short, if you do not PAY for customer service don't expect to GET customer service from these people. They would rather run you around and delay then get a deal and get it over with. Here is a partial description from my parts list:

    TM247 LCD,14.1WXGA+,VESA,TLF,AUO

Has anyone ever done a system replacement before? Do you think that because of this description they will actually try to grab that specific part? That would go against their 'luck of the draw' logic which we have heard about before. Just wondering if anyone could share their experience with me. I am weary and wary at this point, I could care less if I got the same part, provided that it wasn't so dang grainy!

I think they would have to give you the same thing you had or better. So usually they give you the same specs back if they can.

Sometimes it's not the case of getting the same spec laptop. I personally experienced a replacement shipped that had a lower CPU but better screen (IMO). Good thing they reimbursed me for it. Just call them if a situation similar to mine occurs. I'm sure they'll pay for the difference.

Cool. Thanks for letting me know. It is odd to think that they would not give you an EXACT same machine . . . that makes me feel like they look for a match in the refurbed / cancelled order section or something. Unless they no longer have the part, there is little reason to think that they would dare to switch anything on you. I mean, you are already peeved and making an exchange / wasting time, ect.

As an update, they sent me an empty box with a return slip this afternoon. Ostensibly that was a result of the original repair route that I was going to take. However, they are SUPPOSED to be sending me a new machine. And then I would be sending my old one back (if the new one is satisfactory).

So now I have this box and I don't know what to do with it. What do you guys suppose I am supposed to do now?? Maybe I need to see if I can shove it back in when the swap is finally made?

I'd call them to make sure they are on the same page as you.

Update . . . They sent me a box (weren't supposed to) so I chatted with them. Told me I could keep the box and that I wouldn't be paying for the shipping. Good thing.

I will be interested to see what the end product looks like, as my new system is currently 'in production'.
