This is just plain stupid. Dell STILL hasn't said/realeased/cared about Centrino 2 on the mainstream laptops for customers. I suppose it will happen by the year 2009, late 2009. They don't care it seems.

Anyone have any legit info on when it may drop on laptops like the Studio line???

By than it will Nehalem....... :D

I know your patience is running out (so is mine, and everyone else) but we are a mere fraction of consumers - Dell is selling big right now to College students who dont care about Centrino 2 or anything else - they are excited about going to college = must have a shiny new Dell laptop.. = dell's got its hands full on clearing out OLD outdated stock = why not if there r buyers!! = profit

In the year 2009 Nehalem will be out, or late 2009.

No leaks or news have been confirmed, only news that XPS will be discontinued and take the form of Inspiron XPS and Studio XPS, no further details about them. They will be rolling out a bunch of new laptops in the coming months with the discontinuation to prevent competition with the XPS line, but really this is kinda ridiculous. HP has just launched their EliteBook line which is basically what XPS is supposed to be.

Are you kidding? By then, Dell will be known just for selling old, outdated computers.

It's either I buy an HP DV7t (downside is everything is glossed over), or I wait till I die when Dell comes back 75 years later and releases Centrino 2, which will be ancient by then.

Yes, I am in a bad mood, mainly because Dell is stuborn and I want to buy, but not outdated tech.

I work at Wal-Mart (hate the place to death, brings the meaning of slavery), and if you wouldn't know it, we get Dell Inspiron 1318's which I admit are cool, but horribly outdated tech and not available on Dell's website until the very end of this month.

Well, Dell can update their notebooks anytime now. I just ordered an M1730 from the Outlet, so you should see an update very soon.

The Dell Studio is pulling a move by Acer, by having an eSATA/USB combo port on the 1535 that doesn't work, but it is supposed to work for the mythical 1536 laptop which has, dare I speak the name, AMD chipset. Don't EVER put useless ports on a laptop DELL!

There are now mysterious 1537/1737s models abound. Supposedly they might be the 'Studio XPS' that are coming in the 'following weeks'. Just my guess.

Haha, doubt it, maybe by Jan. 2009. Dell is losing business. They used to be number 1, but HP and their glossy paint mess on every product is number 1. I like Dell more over HP, but come on Dell, is it THAT difficult???

Cheaper prices, like new machines, fast shipping times. I think this is my fifth outlet purchase, I have been satisfied thus far. On the downside you have to do a lot of looking and waiting for the configuration that you want. For the M1730 it is even harder because they are in high demand from the Outlet.

It won't be January 2009 for sure. Even Apple is releasing next month and they aren't known to be on the cutting edge.

Don't forget, the Inspiron E1505 and the XPS line prior to the M1330 and M1530 and all, were severely outdated and there were no new products for almost 2 years.

Though when they did unleash the new XPS line starting with the M1330, they became some of the most popular notebooks to date. Dell might be waiting for the next big thing. I wouldnt be surprised if they didn't come out with anything new until Nehalem arrives.

Dell getting rid of the standard XPS line and rolling out Inspiron XPS and Studio XPS isn't really all that appealing to me... I expect they wouldnt want them to conflict with any back to school sales whatsoever so I wouldn't bank on a refresh until at least sometime in September.

Exactly. As I said, the college crowd is drooling and going ga-ga at current "Dell Deals" and they got their 5TB databases overloading with new orders = new releases can WAIT - its a business strategy (increase profit due to demand for outdated, old technology is still SOARING)

When this demand cools down, the crowd becomes unruly and notices no Centrino 2 - thats when Dell will say "Open the gates!" to their new hybrid Studio XPS !

USB 3 is definitely not coming anytime soon, will take a couple more months for it to actually be implemented in consumer products simply because intel only recently decided to release the specifications.

Who knows, Dell might be waiting for October to get the whole montevina, and maybe a few months more until USB 3.0 comes out. Dell is pretty patient.

What what what?!? More news! Any news!

A bumped up 1735 maybe? Hopefully not just an AMD equivalent of the 1735 :(

Your theory about new XPS systems coming soon is hilarious, except that only works with ME ;)

The 1536/1736 were to be the AMD models which never made it to release. These 1537/1737 model numbers appeared recently in a recent device driver's notes. At first we though maybe Montevina Studios, but in lieu of the recent news I would speculate that they could be Studio XPS model numbers. But they also listed the M1340 and M1640, honestly it is still anyone's guess. I seem to thrive on rumors and speculation. ;)

Yeah, what else do we have?

This is just scary though because we've become Apple owners! :D

We need to start a "Dell Rumors" site with a buyers guide and everything.

Sadly, I've been on that side before too. They have more rumors sites so it is much worse. There is just something about a Jobs Note that gets you all riled up and ready to spend, spend, spend! :D

macrumors.com is run by a doctor who recently decided to stop practicing and just run his rumor site full time. These rumors are mostly leaked material by insiders and speculation on patents. Though Apple likes to spread disinformation internally and see what gets out so that they can take care of the leaks.

Yeah, I got tired of waiting. I should have just got the M1730 back in June when they had killer deals on it. I still got a decent price from the Outlet. Watch all new models come out next week as I receive it. :D
