Anyone heard when Dell will be shipping LED screens with the XPS m1530? (CSRs were completely baffled by this question... I think they didn't know what an LED screen was.)![]()

I asked Markus Schütz, the Senior Press Reviews Manager of Dell Europe and he told me that there will be definitely no LED screen for the M1530 in the near future.
Let me quote him (original quote in german):
"Because of the continuing shortage of LED panels, such a screen will not be offered for the M1530. Alternatively, customers who want the maximum of luminance for a LCD-screen can buy the smaller M1330 laptop.
So as i already stated, we will not offer a LED panel for the M1530.
We will sell a M1530 notebook with a LED screen not at any time.
This statement refers to whole Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This statement applies to all resolutions and finally this statement applies to deliveries from Ireland and Poland."
The original quote can be found here (in german):

Does the statement by the fellow from Dell Europe apply to the US? In other words, will there be LED screens for the 1530 in the US? I had held off purchasing a 1530 on the assumption that there would be. Thanks.

The Dells that are sent to the US are made in Malaysia. -
In the user manual specifications it shows a 1280x800 LED version. So as far as I'm concerned there won't be one for me, anyway. I'm a 1680x1050 man.

I asked a sales rep at Dell about this last week and she stated that she had just been at a sales meeting in which it was confirmed that LED screens would definitely be available for the 1530 but there was no indication given of when this might be. She also stated that the LED screens would be available in all resolutions (e.g., 1680 X 1050); however, this information is suspect, for two reasons: 1) she sounded like she was making it up without actually knowing for sure, 2) I typed into Google "download manual 1530" or some such and was taken to Dell's support page where you can download the manual for the 1530 in pdf format (or also html if memory serves). If you look at the back of the manual under specifications, it lists available displays, there is an LED screen option which is 1440 X 900 only.
I'm still trying to bite the bullet and wait for the 1530 because I want the extended battery life, that is the most important feature for me in a notebook and the one that has been a very long time coming, after all this time I really don't want to wind up with a last generation notebook that only goes for 2 hours or so before conking out and having to recharge, the envy will be too great because I suspect that soon the battery life problem will become a thing of the past.
I have ruled out the 1330 because although everyone seems to love it on the Dell site, there are two types of reviews on the CNET site: 1) those who love it and give it a 9 or 10, and 2) those who hate it and give it a 2 or 3 because it fell apart soon after purchase or was DOA. Frighteningly there are a lot of people on CNET who report that the build quality of the 1330 is horrible and they wound up with a lemon that Dell would not replace. If it was one or two I wouldn't worry but when I see a posse it makes me suspect that even if it works for a while, the 1330 is prone to failure. I wish I had the funds to plunge ahead but when I buy a notebook I want/need it last 4-5 years, not a few months (14?), otherwise I would just buy a cheap notebook.
I've been checking the Dell site every day but I suspect it could be a few weeks before the LED screen is available for the 1530, please don't let it be months, I don't think I will be able to wait that long, the Inspiron I have does not have a functioning usb port so I am stuck in an insane situation when I am mobile . . .

/\ /\ /\ do you think this LED screen includes europe, "well uk" don't care about the rest of europe!!
I just have to have an LED screen, I will kill for one. I think the story is bull, they carnt just rule out LED wtf. Everything the u.s get, we get like 2 weeks later, always happens. I think its to do with the irish, they are slow, lazy, ***** lol <- work that one out for yourself! -
I will not get one unless I see the LED displays for sure, there has been so many posts on the bad displays on the 1530.. do I'll wait until I see something better, or I'll get another laptop if Dell can't get their finger out
-
I hope it's soon because I want the promotions yet Penryn + LEDs.
By any chance, does anyone know if the CPU whine exists on all m1530s, or rather all the ones that have the current Santa Rosa CPUs? -
i think dell listens to his customers.
if people demand a LED screen for the M1530, dell will sooner or later react and offer LED. -
Mentioned this question to another Dell CSR (who I don't trust), but he said that if they ever do have an LED with the m1530, they would change the model name. He claims they change models every 6 months to 2 years.
When are 1530 LED screens coming out?
