I ordered a laptop from the dell outlet that seems to have some serious problem and they want to replace the motherboard to fix it. They offered me the option of sending me a replacement...will this one also be refurbished?

It might be--only way to find out would be to call and ask. I don't see how that would be unfair, given the fact that your first one was used. Part of me says that if they are offering a replacement that matches/exceeds your specs they may just build a new one--they have been known to do so.

The only bit of advice I have would be to make sure that you are getting at least as much computer in the replacement (I have heard of them issuing both lesser and better notebooks.)

Typically the replacement will be refurbished, and in most cases it will be at least slightly better equipped, sometimes dramatically so. My replacement M1210 had double the hard drive, the AV package, and 3 years of complete care.

Yeah, I don't mind if it is refurbished as long as everything works and it is as well or better equipped than the one I have now. The guy who came to fix it didn't even put it back together right...there is like a bump in the plastic above the keyboard and a space between the two pieces of plastic on the front. He even had a screw left over.

All they told me about it was "It will be shipped directly from us." I'm not sure what they meant by that...

Iceman0124, how long did it take for them to get your replacement to you?

I think they put mine together. It looked and felt new however the service tag was pre-Oct 2006 so it was an old tag. Didn't bug me much. I already had the vista disc from the one I sent back so I can upgrade when the need comes. It also had a "Designed for Windows XP" sticker. Once again that doesn't bug me that much even though my old one had the Vista Capable version of it. I just ordered the proper one on eBay and got a "Powered by nVidia" one and several "Windows Vista" stickers while I was at it. While I waited I removed the old XP sticker and did some tricks to cleanly remove all the leftover gunk.
