I'm curious as to when it ends. I've heard it ends on the 8th. Is that true?

Also, I see they've jacked prices up to $50 to change the color.

I've heard nothing. As far as I know, they can simply end it at any moment. It's one of their incentives to get you to "buy now".

I think it is Dell's way of keeping the base model price higher. For those of us looking for a cheaper base model (to add our own bigger hard drives or 4GB RAM!), adding these "free" upgrades only increases the price, because they really are not Free!

I'm hoping once the deal goes away, that the base price drops or they offer "free" CPU upgrades!

My theory is that this gives you the "illusion" that you're getting a better deal, meanwhile they raise the prices for something else so in the end it doesn't matter.

The end date was originally set in September, but they just recently changed it to August 9th. Totally messed up my plans...

It's probably because they're running out of those parts... Just like everything else (LCD screens, colors, etc.). But who knows, maybe there will be a better deal to come?
