Is Intel's mediocre planning even worth the wait with a newer Intel processor expected a few months after?

I've read July 14th as the rollout got delayed. As i understand it they wanted more time to finalise the platform and iron out any problems with the chipset. As XPS is Dell's 'Xtreme Performance Systems' line, expect the new chips to hit the M1530 soon after this date. A few companies have already announced specs of their new laptops, with the new 9-series nvidia GPU's included.

I seem to remember reading another thread where you asked if you can upgrade an existing XPS to montevina, and as far as I know you cannot, as the chipsets are completely different, and not just an upgraded version (die shrink) of the same technology as Penryn chips were for Santa Rosa.

    Hope that helps :)

"Microprocessor giant Intel Corp has confirmed that there will be delays in the rollout of its upcoming Montevina notebook platform, with the discrete iteration now shipping July 14 versus the initial target of late June, making it three weeks late.

The integrated version of Montevina may now launch the first week of August, versus Intel’s prior plan of a broad-based July ramp date, making the chipset version approximately 1 month late."

Will the M1330's expect the same upgrade date as the M1530's for Montevina? And are the improvements worth the wait compared to the current Penryn processors?

Ahh, you edited your OP :p Well to answer your new question, it depends on what you want your laptop for.

The deals around now are probably the best prices you'll get for an M1530 as the old processors are being sold off to make room for the new line. I ordered on wednesday as I think the 8600m GT is a fast enough graphics card for my needs and I was more than happy with the price i paid for the system. If you have the money to spend and you would prefer a new 9 series card (9500m 9600? even 9650 maybe?) with specs of the 8600 or even the 8700m in a cooler form, then it could be worth the wait.

Weigh up the pros and the cons in your circumstance and you should be able to come to your own decision if you'd prefer the existing tech now, or wait for the new stuff. All technology is updated continuously, if you always wait for the new chips, you'll be waiting forever!

(That said, it's not long to wait, if you don't need the laptop yet, you could just wait and see :))

    Hey, sg89

Most of all the Montevina is offering me improved battery life and a cooler cpu/motherboard. Are those good enough reasons to wait and maybe pay $500-$1000 bucks more for the new processor? I'm perfectly fine with the M1330 Nvidia 8400 video card, 2.4 ghz, and 4gb RAM right now but would not mind an upgrade if the price was right. How much more would the prices be for the Centrino 2 compared to a $2000 fully loaded xps m1330/m1530 now?

    Hope your still online, Thanks

Better, newer = more exp. and later. Are you ready to wait, and pay more? If so, no problem.

That's good enough for me. I am all for a cooler notebook. My dell d630 had a 2.5ghz proc that ran hot as he||.

It's anyone's guess on pricing really, it would probably be comparable to the current deals without the clearance discount i'd guess?

I'm not so sure the DDR3 SO-DIMMs will be so cheap. They aren't even released yet. well, I haven't seen pricing for them at all.

im not really a gamer, though the better battery life/lower heat looks nice, i cannot wait til august (or late-august/september after shipping)........

seeing whether the m1330 is going cheap during this week's XPS sale
