I've had my vostro 1500 for a couple of days and I noticed a weird problem.

I've had it plugged into the AC most of the time and it's been fine. But if it's been shut down and I switch it on when it's not plugged into the AC, then it sometimes runs into problems. It gets past the Dell screen then displays a black screen with the flashing cursor for ever and never makes it into Vista. (The battery is fully charged)

If I shut down and switch it on again then it normally makes it into Vista the second time round, and if it's plugged into the AC then it always boots up fine.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not desperate to send it back to Dell because I normally use the laptop plugged into the mains anyway, but I don't want it to be an underlying problem that gets worse over time.

Anyone got any ideas on what to try?

Ah that might be the reason, I have my iPod plugged in, can't believe I didn't think of that.

I'll report back in a few mins to see if that solves it...

I second the IPod problem idea.
Because both XP and Vista sometimes have problems with USB storage plugged in before complete boot.
