When I unplug my laptop, and I have maximum brightness set on screen, there is this really high pitch hum and flickering of the screen. Does anyone know what I can do?

Turn down the brightness to save battery life and remove the humming. :)

Probably because your screen isnt getting enough energy from your battery, how old is it ?
and its always helpful if you include the model and specs of your computer in your signature, that way we can be of better help :D

    Cheers!

The computer in question is a vostro 1500, regular non upgraded battery with 1440x900 screen.

Warranty is out, wondering if this is an issue with the 8600m gt video card that everyone is saying are faulty.

No, if anything it is the backlight inverter.

    yeah i second nizzy,

it has to do with the screen, not your gpu, if it was your gpu, it would be constant artifacts, regardless of your brightness levels.

maybe look on ebay for some replacement parts?

Is there a guide anywhere on how to replace the inverter? Is it a simple replacement? Is this inverter the same as the one on the inspiron 1520?

Thanks guys. I think its the inverter, the sound is coming from the bottom of the lcd.
