no...conroe (desktop version of merom) is 40% faster than Pentium D.
merom is about 5-10% faster than yonah AT BEST.
there are several threads about this...so please read -

pentium D was based off of the old netburst architecture, wich is why the performace jump is so dramatic, as it stands now you would be hard pressed to find much difference between a similar clocked core duo and a core2 duo in a side by side real world envrionment, the main thing that core2 brings to the table are 64bit extensions, that for the majoraty of home users are pretty much useless, 64bit will slowly become standard over the course of the next few years when vista takes hold, but its not going to happen overnight, unless you really need a 64 bit capeable machine, I'd go with a yonah, you wont regret it, unless your one of the few that needs 64bit now

Merom will show its true potential in mobile applications with the introduction of the Santa Rosa platform early next year. Faster FSB will make a difference.

Also, the E1505 should have Merom in it at the latest by the end of September/early October.

This is something you're just going to have to sit tight and wait for. It will be out in due time, by early September most likely.
Do a thread search next time; this question has been asked too many times.
When will E1505 have merom?
