I'm a college student right now, and I plan on getting a new laptop soon. I only use it for processing and internet so I don't really need it for special programs or games. I'm looking to get a 14" vostro 1400 or an inspiron 1420 (inspiron is usually more expensive) or the xps m1330 (i would definately buy if it wasn't above my budget though I don't think I would mind spending htat much since the holidays are coming up)
well, i know that new processors are coming out soon, but I really would like to get a new laptop asap and sales usually will come up soon right? Will there be dell sales during thanksgiving, cybermonday, or christmas?
So far i set up a 1400 for about 800$ w/ tax @ 1.6 ghz, 2gb ram, 120 gb, webcam, but I just saw that they took down the 2 gb free dealie. nonetheless I'm looking for somehting in that price range but I think sales will come up soon where config's might be cheaper or better for the same price.
ULTIMATELY: behind all this text I'm just wondering if sales are coming up soon and if waiting would be a good idea.
Thanks a bunch

It's best to buy when you need a laptop. If you can wait, then wait until you need a laptop.
-
Thankgiving sales are coming up soon, so you can check those out and see if anything meets your budget/needs.

Do you guys happen to know how Dell's thanksgiving sales will go? will there by a cybermonday deal? Are their christmas deals even better?
-
There will be definitely a Cyber Monday deal from Dell. Looks like M1530 will be available during Christmas for delivery in 2008.
-
Lets be honest, there are Dell sales 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
When you need a laptop, buy one. You'll immediately regret doing it when they slash the price but you can't wait forever and they raise and cut prices all the time.
BTW I'm referring to Dell UK with the above comments - I don't know anything about their US operation at all -
prices will ALWAYS drop. my laptop back a few months ago was a STEAL. and it included A LOT of time on the phone with Dell's dumb customer support. right now, it's as common as hell.
-
If you already have a computer and are looking forward to buy a new one, then it makes sense to wait for a deal. -
I highly doubt Dell's prices will be any lower on Black Friday or the following Monday than they are now.

July was cheapest in my experience.

the problem is that no matter how much you wait there will be a better deal later. These deals come in different forms (money back, better hardware offered, support options, etc..). There is simply no point to wait UNLESS YOU CAN. if you dont need a laptop this minute dont buy it, but if you do go for the purchase and dont look back.
-
Well, you can always buy and return in 21 days till you find your perfect notebook! That way you can experience as many different models as you want!

lol, thanks for all your responses. it seems like this topic got resurrected since I posted it on the 2nd of nov.
anyways, I mean I have a laptop right now, and I understand what you guys are saying but knowing this, I could use this laptop forever until a component breaks down (God forbid, I'm doing a paper right now).
I'm buying a new laptop mainly for convenience. The 1400 would be simlar to the one i have right now in build but a little lighter (but MUCH better components). THe m1330 would just be plain awesome since its so small yet pretty powerful.
I'm so sorry that my sentences are all messy, I'm working on a paper right now that is draining my energy lol. I just went on nbr really quick for a break and need to get back to my work soon.
Thanks a bunch guys
When would it be best to buy
